Sam Mayer won Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race in overtime.
Mayer passed Parker Kligerman in overtime and would go on to win Saturday’s Xfinity cutoff race. With his win on Saturday, Mayer advances to the next round of the playoffs while Parker Kligerman will miss the cutoff line.
Kligerman, who finished second appeared to have had the race won in regulation when the caution came out. On tv it looked as if he had crossed the start finish line to begin the last lap of the race prior to the caution lights coming on. However, a still photo showed that Kligerman’s car was just 2 feet away from the start finish line when the caution lights were displayed.
On the overtime restart, Kilgerman passed Mayer for the race lead in Turn 4 of the infield by Mayer would regain the race lead when they exited the hairpin in Turn 7. Mayer would drive away from Kligerman for the race win.
For Mayer, this marks his third win of the 2024 season and his seventh career Xfinity win. Mayer won the Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the second consecutive year.
Drivers who failed to advance into the next round of the playoffs included Parker Kligerman, Sheldon Creed, Shane van Gisbergen and Riley Herbst.
Mayer, who entered Saturday’s race needing a win to advance delivered for his Jr Motorsports team.
“It was something super special. Now we get to celebrate,” Mayer told the CW post-race.
Drivers that advanced into the next round of the playoffs include Sam Mayer, Justin Allgaier, Cole Custer, Austin Hill, Chandler Smith, Jesse Love, AJ Allmendinger and Sammy Smith.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway next Saturday, October 19th at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on the CW.
