What was a battle between teammate and affiliate teams of Love, Hill and AJ Allmendinger swapping the lead five time in the first 20 laps of the opening stage Love would take the lead as the laps began to wind down only to get out of line ending up 15th by the time the stage would come to an end.
Chandler Smith who took the lead with six laps remaining in the stage would take home the opening stage win of the day over AJ Allmendinger, Allgaier, Hill and Creed.
With under 10 laps remaining in the second stage, caution would come out for an incident involving Leitz spinning and collecting both Burton and Kligerman. Everyone would drive off but Leitz would bring his car to pit road for the team to take a look at the damage only to drive to the garage ending their day.
Stage two would end following a three-lap battle to the end between Hill and Allgaier with Hill taking the stage win over Sammy Smith followed by Love, Van Gisbergen and Chandler Smith.
Allgaier who was battling for the lead in the shootout would end up finishing the stage in 13th.
Caution would once again come out for the fourth time of the day with under 20 laps remaining when Van Gisbergen would cut across the nose of Thompson’s No. 26 machine as Anderson would get into the rear of Thompson almost simultaneously sending the No. 26 into the path of Van Gisbergen.
Also involved in the wreck would be Gray, A. Hill, Williams and more. Both Gray and Williams car would sustain the most damage needing a tow back to the garage ending their day.
Anderson and Van Gisbergen teams would attempt to fix the damage but exhaust the time limits sending them to the garage to end their day.
As laps would begin to wind down under five to go, Brandon Jones would get into the back of Carson Kvapil sending him up the track collecting Burton, Retzlaff, Kligerman, Allgaier and multiple other cars.
With cleanup needed, NASCAR would stop the cars and throw the red flag to get the cars and track cleaned with just three laps remaining, also requiring NASCAR to go into overtime to finish out the race.
In total 12 cars would get collected.
On the restart, Herbst, along with a pair of Smith’s would clear the field trying to take the lead from each other with Chandler Smith the first to the white flag.
Chandler along with Sammy Smith would then drag race the final lap with Sammy Smith taking the checkered flag to lock himself into the round of 8.
Ryan Sieg would come in second followed by Herbst, Creed, and Chandler Smith rounding out the top-five.
