NXS: Custer wins Food City 300 and Xfinity Series Regular Season Championship at Bristol Motor Speedway

Things happen quickly at the world’s fastest half mile and a lead change would happen within the first lap when Justin Allgaier would charge to the front taking the lead away from Chandler Smith who had started on the pole.

But the first caution of the night would come out just as quickly when Cole Custer would cut a tire bringing out the caution with just three laps complete.

Dale Jr. who is potentially in his final NASCAR race would have an issue with the radio prior to the green flag would use the caution to come to pit road to change out the radios in the car.

Dale’s problems would compound when he would also speed on pit road, sending him to the rear of the field for the restart.

While passing 50 laps complete Austin Green would blow a tire tagging the wall just as race leader Allgaier was passing.

Green would get into the rear of Allgaier before also collecting Retzlaff bringing out the second caution of the night.

During the caution Dale Jr. would take the opportunity to make multiple stops on pit road to fix the radio issue changing radios, helmet and the wiring harness during multiple stops, never losing a lap.

Allgaier who had to fix damage to the car would turn the lead over to Chandler Smith who would take the first stage win of the night over Love, Creed, AJ Allmendinger and Alfredo rounding out the top-five.

Following a near 25 lap battle for the lead following the fourth caution of the night, Custer would finally take the lead away from Mayer.

Allgaier, while racing with Creed for the fourth spot would contact each other sending the No. 7 spinning down the track into the inside wall.

When stage two would come to an end, Jeremy Clements would take home the stage win over Custer, Truex, Creed and C. Smith.

With just 20 laps into the final stage of the night, Allgaier would cut a tire sending the No. 7 spinning down the back to bring out the seventh caution of the night. After another round of repairs, Allgaier would return six laps down.

On the restart following a two-lap battle on the restart, Custer would take back control of the race leading the final 91 laps taking home the win and the 2024 Xfinity Series regular season championship by three points over Justin Allgaier who would wind up finishing in the 30th spot and 10 laps down.

“Man, it’s just unbelievable. It’s a testament to these guys. It’s been a really hard month, but everyone at the shop really kept their heads in it. I can’t thank High Point enough. It’s awesome to get them a win. Ford Performance. All the guys did such a great job. It was an unbelievable car all night. I’m ready to get to the playoffs.” Said Custer

Rounding out the top-five would be Sheldon Creed, Chandler Smith, Jesse Love and Ryan Truex.

Dale Jr. in what is potentially his final NASCAR race would overcome adversity to finish in the seventh spot.

The 12 drivers reseeded going for the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship: Allgaier, Custer, A. Hill, C. Smith, Van Gisbergen, Love, Mayer, Herbst as the top eight.
