Christopher Bell held off Cole Custer in overtime to win Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway.
Sheldon Creed was leading Saturday’s Xfinity Series race up until the race was sent into overtime after AJ Allmendinger made contact with the wall.
Creed, who entered pit road first lost his lead after a slow pit stop and would restart third with two laps to go. Creed would ultimately finish in the third position behind Cole Custer.
With his win on Saturday, Christopher Bell is now two for two in Xfinity starts he’s made this year in winning both. Saturday’s victory for Bell also marks his 19th career Xfinity Series victory.
“It seemed like our car was really good on the short run. Sheldon was really good on the long run. Unfortunately for him, the race laid out differently and fortunately for us we got another shot at it,” Christopher Bell told NBC Sports post-race.
Rounding out the top five were Cole Custer in second, Sheldon Creed in third, Chase Elliott in fourth and Sammy Smith in fifth.
Rounding out the top ten were Jesse Love in sixth, Shane Van Gisbergen in seventh, Chandler Smith in eighth, Austin Hill in ninth and Justin Allgaier in tenth.
Cup series regular Joey Logano finished last in the 38 car field after having engine troubles only 12 laps into the race.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 7th at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on USA Network.
With just three races left in the regular season, Justin Allgaier currently leads in the points standings over rookie Shane Van Gisbergen while Sammy Smith currently sits in the 12th position with only a 10 point cushion over the cutoff line. Ryan Sieg currently sits in 13th in the standings 10 points behind the cutoff line.
