NXS: Chandler Smith takes pole for Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway

After just one round of qualifying a pop-up storm with lightning would force an end to qualifying for tonight’s Wawa 250 at Daytona.

In the first round Chandler Smith would be the fastest car taking the pole in the canceled second round with Toyota at the top of board in qualifying for this race since David Ragan did it back in 2016 with a lap time of 49.672 at 181.189 mph.

Following Smith would be Austin Hill who has won the season kick off in February for the last three season with a time of 49.690 at 181.123 mph, AJ Allmendinger who will go full-time Cup Series racing in 2025 rolls from the third spot with Graf Jr. and Love rounding out the top-five.

During qualifying Sam Mayer would bring his car out on track but a shifting mistake would damage the engine in the car. Mayer would still attempt to qualify with the damaged engine ending up in 38th spot. Following the qualifying run Mayer would take the car to the garage for the team to swap out engines.

Green flag for the Wawa 250 is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on USA Network with stage breaks set for laps 30. 60 and 100.
