Kyle Busch captured the pole for tonight’s Virginia529 College Savings 250 at the Richmond International Raceway after a fast time of 22.332 seconds, 120.903 mph. Tonight will be the 16th time of the 2014 season that he will start a race from inside the top-10. Busch is certainly among one of the fan favorites to score the win this evening.
Starting from the runner-up spot will be Ryan Blaney after posting his fast time of 22.407 seconds, 120.498 mph. Blaney will make his ninth Nationwide Series start of the season as he looks for his fifth top-10 finish of the year. Blaney was held up by a slower car while taking his lap and felt it costed him the pole. This will be the ninth time that he has started from inside the top-10 this year.
Series points leader, Chase Elliott, will roll off tonight’s race from the third position. Elliott posted a fast time of 22.471 seconds, 120.155 mph. This starting position will be huge for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender as he races his teammate Regan Smith for the championship. This marks the seventh time of the year that Elliott has started a race from the top-five.
Tanner Berryhill and Derrike Cope will be the two cars that will fail to qualify for the event. This is the second time that Berryhill has missed a NASCAR Nationwide Series race. The last time the team missed a race was the season opener at the Daytona International Speedway in February.
The Virginia529 College Savings 250 will air live on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. Et. The Motor Racing Network will also carry the live radio broadcast of the event. Brad Keselowski is the defending race winner but is not entered.
