Sheldon Creed / No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra Preview – Focused Health 250 at Circuit of the Americas

No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra News and Notes:

  • CREED AT COTA: Sheldon Creed heads to Austin, Texas for the Focused Health 250 at the Circuit of the Americas this weekend for the fifth race of the 2024 Xfinity Series season. In two prior starts at the track, Creed has earned two top-10s and led 16 laps, highlighted by a best finish of ninth in last year’s race. Creed also has one pole and one top-five in two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts at the 3.246 mile road course.
  • PHOENIX RECAP: After starting from the back due to post-qualifying repairs, Creed methodically worked his way through the field as the day went on. While seemingly a non-factor for most of the day with 14th and 12th place finishes in the first two stages, patience and strong pit stops put the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra team in position to compete late in the race. Creed took the final restart alongside teammate Chandler Smith and fought him for an overtime victory, before eventually finishing third on the day.
  • FRIENDS OF JACLYN FOUNDATION: Founded in 2005, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers while raising awareness for said diseases. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local teams, clubs, and community groups. FOJ has currently made over 1000 adoptions and their mission is to continue to raise awareness through our Adopt-A-Child, Safe on the Sidelines, and Guardian Angel Programs.
  • ON THE PITBOX: Crew chief Sam McAulay will lead the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra crew this season. Despite his rookie status, McAulay is an established mind at JGR as he joined the organization in 2007 and worked his way up the ranks from intern to lead race engineer for the No. 11 Cup Series entry of Denny Hamlin. Since the start of his tenure on the No. 11 in 2017, McAulay has contributed to 25 victories, including three Daytona 500 wins and a Coke 600 win as a crew chief when he filled-in for the suspended Chris Gabehart in 2022.
  • JGR AT COTA: Joe Gibbs Racing has one Xfinity Series win at Circuit of the Americas, which came when Kyle Busch won the inaugural Xfinity Series race held there in 2021. To go along with the one win, JGR holds two poles, three top-fives, four top-10s, and 36 laps led. Additionally in 10 combined starts, every JGR entry has completed every scheduled lap in every race ran at COTA (460/460).

Sheldon Creed, Driver of the No. 18 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Toyota GR Supra:

“You’ve found success on road courses in the past. How does that play into your approach going into this weekend?”

“Road courses are always a lot of fun. This is my first one with my new team so I’m excited to get out there and learn with them. I feel good about the car that we’re bringing and I think COTA is a fun, challenging track. There’s going to be a lot of competition with all these road course guys in the field but I think that’s just going to make the racing even more fun.”
