It was a big Independence Day weekend for the entire Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) organization with Dakoda Armstrong earning the pole position for Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race and Aric Almirola taking the victory in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. RPM now sets its sights on a much different track, New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Armstrong’s last start at the one-mile track came five years ago in a K&N East Series race where he finished 12th. The Nationwide team at RPM has a good history at Loudon with a fifth and 11th place finish in its two starts. The organization had a strong showing at the short tracks on the Sprint Cup side for the first half of the season, and Armstrong is looking for the success to carry over to the Nationwide car for this weekend’s race.

“I ran at Loudon once in a K&N race in 2009, so it’s been a long time. It’s been five years since I’ve been on the track, and sometimes even tracks I visit regularly you have to kind of re-learn how to drive it in the Nationwide car. It was actually one of my first stock car races. It’s a fun place. It’s really flat and the straightaways are long for how tight the corners are, so you have to make sure the car rotates well. If I remember correctly, it was fun to pass there. You can move to the outside on guys and get a run on them. It drives like a short track, and our cup teams have had some pretty good runs at the short tracks lately, so I’m hoping we can carry that over to the Nationwide car.”
