John Hunter Nemechek – No. 20 Safeway/Albertsons Toyota GR Supra Preview – The LiUNA NASCAR Xfinity Series Race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

No. 20 Safeway/Albertsons Toyota GR Supra News and Notes

  • NEMECHEK AT LAS VEGAS: John Hunter Nemechek has posted two top-five finishes and four top-10s in six career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Last season, he finished sixth and second in the track’s pair of races. Nemechek’s resume at Las Vegas also includes a NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series win in 2021 when he led 94 of 134 laps on the way to victory lane.
  • ATLANTA RECAP: Nemechek finished 32nd in last Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway after a setback during stage two. He started third and ran up front for most of the first stage. On lap 68, a stack up in turn three resulted in Nemechek being hit from behind. As a result, he hit the outside wall and suffered a flat right-front tire. After limping back to pit road, he found himself two laps down before another flat tire forced him to pit again, dropping him four laps off the pace.
  • NEMECHEK’S XFINITY SERIES SCHEDULE: As he transitions to full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Nemechek is slated to compete in 10 total Xfinity Series races for Joe Gibbs Racing this season. Beyond Las Vegas, he is scheduled to be behind the wheel of the No. 20 Toyota GR Supra at Phoenix Raceway (March 9), Circuit of the Americas (March 23), Sonoma Raceway (June 8), Iowa Speedway (June 15), Nashville Superspeedway (June 29), the Chicago Street Course (July 6), and Michigan International Speedway (August 17).
  • SAFEWAY / ALBERTSONS: Nemechek’s No. 20 Toyota GR Supra will feature Safeway and Albertsons as the primary sponsor this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Safeway is a supermarket chain with more than 900 locations across the United States operating as a banner of Albertsons Companies, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States and the District of Columbia.
  • JGR AT LAS VEGAS: Joe Gibbs Racing owns three Xfinity Series wins at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In 82 combined starts at the track, the organization has posted 25 top-five finishes, 46 top-10s, four pole awards, and 1,118 laps led. Kyle Busch and Ty Gibbs have both driven JGR Toyotas to victory lane at the 1.5-mile track.
  • TUNE IN: Coverage of this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, at 5 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, PRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

What do you expect from the Xfinity Series race in Las Vegas?

“I’m excited to get to Las Vegas this weekend for a more typical race. Daytona and Atlanta are very unpredictable and you’re kind of at the mercy of everyone around you. Unfortunately for us, we’ve had some trouble getting caught up in different stuff the first two weeks, but I’m looking forward to this weekend. We ran well at Las Vegas last year and we ran well on the intermediate tracks all year. I feel like we can pick up right where we left off and put together a solid run. Tyler (Allen, crew chief) and the guys are doing a great job. We just need a little luck to go our way and we can have a good run this weekend.”
