NNS: Incidents Strike Kyle Busch and Chris Cockrum in Practice at Charlotte
Twice during the first NASCAR Nationwide Series practice for Saturday's History 300, we saw a couple of on-track racing incidents, which involved Chris Cockrum and Kyle Busch.
The first incident involved Chris Cockrum as he spun his No. 87 Advanced Communications Group Ford over in turn four. The car sustained some heavy damage to the right side and had to barrow a car from another team as they had no backup car.
The second crash, which was also a single car incident, involved the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota over off of turn two. Kyle told FOX Sports 1 that his car just snapped loose as he was trying to get around Brendan Gaughan. The racing team did pull the backup car out but will take the wrecked No. 54 Toyota back to the shop to fix so it'll be ready to go Saturday before qualifying. Busch also added that they will use Saturday's qualifying session to shake down the car.
Both of these drivers who was involved in crashes on Thursday afternoon will not have to start the race Saturday afternoon at the rear of the field. Busch finished the practice session sitting in the second spot after running a fast time of 30.248 seconds, 178.524 mph. As for Cockrum, he finished the practice session 29th fastest with a time of 31.365 seconds, 172.166 mph.
