Carlos Contreras, NASCAR’s original diversity driver, and Rick Ware Racing team up for Daytona

Carlos Contreras makes his return to NASCAR’s Nationwide Series in the Drive for COPD 300 at Daytona on February 22, 2014.  Contreras, a talented internationally known driver with 7 Mexican Championships, has been a true ambassador for NASCAR over the years.   He currently has 87 NASCAR starts and will attempt to make his 100th start this season.

Contreras on his return to the Nationwide Series, “I’m really excited to be back in NASCAR, racing for Rick Ware and RWR.  I’m going to make the most of this new opportunity, do my best and chase down that 100th race, a personal goal I set for myself a few years ago.”

Carlos became the 1st Hispanic driver in NASCAR’s history when he qualified 7th and finished 14th at California Speedway in his first NASCAR Truck series event (10/31/99).  He went on to race 3 complete Truck seasons before taking a shot in the Nationwide series where he ran sporadically from 2003 through 2007.   In 2010 Carlos ran 1 NASCAR Truck Series event, Daytona, where he finished 14th.   Since then Carlos has been racing in and supporting the NASCAR Mexico Series which he helped establish, and which is now the # 1 Motorsport Series in Mexico.

“I am very excited to have Carlos driving the #15 for Rick Ware Racing and proud to have RaceTrac convenience stores and Global Aircraft Solutions on board with us for Speedweek at Daytona,” said team owner Rick Ware.

“RaceTrac is proud to partner with Rick Ware Racing, and to support driver Carlos Contreras at the Daytona Nationwide Race on February 22.  At RaceTrac, we live for fun every day and partnering with the #15 RaceTrac/Global Aircraft Solutions Ford car is a perfect way to deliver on that promise,” said RaceTrac spokesperson, Ashleigh Collins.

Global Aircraft Solution’s International Sales Director, Roman Ruiz, added, “We are proud to partner with Carlos Contreras and help him complete his chase to 100 NASCAR races.  As a company, we are always looking to grow our presence in the US and Latin America, and we feel that Carlos and NASCAR are an excellent fit for those purposes.  Knowing Carlos, we are also going to have lots of fun achieving our goals!”

Contreras continued, “I want to thank my sponsors who are making this event possible, Racetrac Convenient Stores and Global Aircraft Solutions.  I really can’t thank them enough!  I also want to thank all the NASCAR fans who have supported me over the years and whom have stayed in touch via Facebook or Twitter @ccontreras1122.   It’s going to be a great 2014!”

Carlos will be participating in additional Nationwide Series events throughout 2014 for RWR.  Next on the schedule is Phoenix on March 1st.  Additional confirmed races include California, Texas (1 & 2), Daytona (2), Homestead-Miami and, among others, the 3 Road Courses on the 2014 schedule
