Though Orange County Fair Speedway’s “Back the Blue” event is a night dedicated to Law Enforcement Officers, there’s something for the whole family at this yearly speedway tradition. OCFS’s new management team has made it their mission to pack as much possible entertainment into every Saturday night, including April 27th’s Back the Blue Law Enforcement Appreciation Night. The night’s racing program features the lightning fast 800+ HP Big Block V8 Modifieds, 358 Small Block Modifieds and Sportsman Modifieds racing on the northeast’s oldest racetrack, established in 1919. The “Rock Fantasy Concert Shop” presented Street Stocks are off for the evening and will return for May 4th’s “War of the Stars” event. Just like opening night and every week going forward, the 31st Lap Tavern will feature drink specials and live music before and after the races. Performing this week is Frankie Sorino and The F-Bombs, while The 31st Lap Tavern serves up $4 Draft Kona Longboard Lagers and $1 off Jaeger Bombs!
In addition to live music, fans will also have the opportunity to meet members of the NY Giants: Carl Banks, Howard Cross and Sean Landeta. These Superbowl Champions will be signing autographs from around 7-8:30 in “Champions Plaza” behind the grandstands. Halmar International, the night’s presenting sponsor, will also be providing “Hero Cards” for fans to have singed by the players.
Of course the main draw to Back the Blue night is the FREE general admission for Law Enforcement Officers with ID, but this year’s event also features FREE admission to all children under 14 years old. With a one-night-only free kids discount, this is a perfect opportunity for LEO’s to bring the whole family! As if FREE live music, FREE NY Giants autograph session and a full night of the Northeast’s most exhilarating racing wasn’t enough, OCFS has partnered with local Dunkin’ Donuts stores to distribute FREE donuts to the first 500 people through our grandstand gates.
OCFS’s long running souvenir program “The Hard Clay” will also be distributed at all spectator gates, for FREE, while supplies last. This event’s special program contains a tribute to legendary OCFS driver and 1976 Sportsman Champion, Russ Meyer. “Russ Meyer” is the assumed name of an OCFS favorite who kept his real identity a secret because he was a Law Enforcement Officer by day.
If you or a loved one are in law Enforcement, this is a must see event. Pre-race ceremonies will pay tribute to Law Enforcement with local PD vehicles running parade laps on the track. Afterwards, representatives from the Town of Wallkill Police, City of Middletown Police, NYS Police and Orange County Sheriff’s Dept. will stick around for community engagement, interacting with OCFS fans in the Champions Plaza area behind the grandstands.
