Sellers Scores Second SBS Win In Easter Bunny Late Model 100

Defending South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division Champion Peyton Sellers sped past teenage rookie Daniel Silvestri with 53 laps to go and went on to win Saturday night’s NASCAR Easter Bunny Late Model 100 at South Boston Speedway.

Saturday night’s win in the caution-free race was the second of the season for the former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion from Danville, Virginia.

Silvestri, driving a car co-owned by NASCAR racer Jeb Burton of Halifax, Virginia and H. C. Sellers of Danville, Virginia, trailed by 2.498 seconds at the finish. The race was Silvestri’s second outing in a Late Model Stock Car. He had competed in twin 75-lap Late Model Stock Car Division races at South Boston Speedway on March 30.

Mike Looney of Catawba, Virginia finished third, holding off former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Lee Pulliam of Alton, Virginia and defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Virginia in a battle for third place over the closing laps.

The race featured two lead changes among Sellers and Silvestri, with Sellers leading twice for a total of 86 laps and Silvestri leading once for 14 laps.

Sellers averaged 91.168 mph in winning the race that took 26 minutes and 19 seconds to complete.

Borst, Moss Split Wins In Limited Sportsman Twinbill

Two new winners emerged in the pair of 25-lap NASCAR Limited Sportsman Division races Saturday night at South Boston Speedway, with Jacob Borst of Elon, North Carolina and Daniel Moss of Danville, Virginia splitting wins in the twinbill.

In the first 25-lap race, Borst took the lead from Jessica Dana of Mooresville, North Carolina on the 10th lap and held off a fast-closing Danny Willis Jr. of South Boston, Virginia to secure the win. Borst’s margin of victory over Willis was .287-second.

Dana finished third with rookie Landon Pembelton and Moss rounding out the top five finishers.

The second race featured an inverted start among the top four finishers of the first race, but Moss started from the pole after a crash that occurred before the first lap was completed took out Pembelton and heavily damaged Willis’s car.

Moss led the entire race, edging Dana by .216-second to claim the win. Borst finished third with Drew Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia and Cole Bruce of Fredericksburg, Virginia rounding out the top five finishers.

Crews Wins Pure Stock Division Race

Nathan Crews of Long Island, Virginia took the lead from Jordan Pickrel of Keeling, Virginia on the second lap and took the win in the night’s 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock Division race.

The win was the second for Crews in as many starts at South Boston Speedway this season.

Pickrel finished second .589-second behind Crews with Bruce Mayo of Halifax, Virginia, Randy Hupp of Halifax, Virginia and Justin Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia rounding out the top five finishers.

Currin Wins Hornets Division Race

Kevin Currin of Chase City, Virginia took the lead from Aaron Cash of South Boston, Va. with four laps to go and held on to win the night’s 15-lap Budweiser Hornets Division race.

The win was the first of the season for Currin at South Boston Speedway.

Cash finished second with Steven Layne of Nathalie, Virginia, Jared Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia and Josh Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia completing the top five finishers.

Next Race At South Boston Speedway

The stars and cars of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East circuit will return to South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, May 4 when “America’s Hometown Track” hosts the WhosYourDriver.org NASCAR K&N Twin 100’s racing program.

The unique event, one o f the bigger events of the season at South Boston Speedway, will feature the competitors of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in twin 100-lap races. South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Pure Stock Division racers will compete in a 30-lap race and the Budweiser Hornets Division competitors will compete in a 15-lap race.

Practice will run from 1:30 p.m. until 3:40 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and qualifying will start at 5 p.m. A driver autograph session will be held trackside at 6 p.m. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Advance adult general admission tickets priced at $10 will be available for purchase until Friday, May 3 at 5 p.m. Adult general admission tickets will be $15 on race day. Youth ages 12 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
