Construction Progress Report: Race Surface Ready!

Seeing double – yellow lines that is! Talladega Superspeedway’s new, ultra-smooth racing surface over the new Turn 3 Oversized Vehicle Tunnel received a fresh coat of paint Tuesday for its double yellow “out-of-bounds” line, as well as its white reference point lines in preparation for next week’s tripleheader, April 26-28.

Using a line striping machine, workers from Taylor Corporation (Oxford), along with Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch, put the final touches on the surface that is located near the end of the Alabama Gang Superstretch and entrance to Turn 3. As a result, the track is now ready for the General Tire 200, the MoneyLion 300 and the GEICO 500.

Nearing the final completion of Phase I of Transformation – The Talladega Superspeedway Infield Project presented by Graybar, it was actually a “paint-fest” during the day with white lines being put down to finish off the new Finish Line Premium RV (complete with full hookups) area for fans, as well as a new competitor RV lot.

Also, the final layer of asphalt has been applied to several locations, including at the entry/exit locations of the tunnel. In addition to the dark-top items, a host activities continue to take place – placing sod and putting up fencing, along with adding the finishing touches to other areas.

The Oversized Vehicle Tunnel will be used for the first time next week, which will feature the ARCA Menards Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The new 2-lane tunnel will be capable of allowing vehicles as large as race team haulers and fans’ recreational vehicles to enter and exit the track simultaneously with ease. It will be open 24 hours during event weekends, and will officially open next Wednesday (9 a.m. CDT). When fans enter the track, they will be treated to new Infield Shower Trailers, located on the Turn 1-2 area of the infield (intersection of Talladega and Eastaboga Blvds).

Phase II of Transformation – The Talladega Superspeedway Infield Project presented by Graybar will begin immediately on Monday, April 29, with the demolition of various buildings inside the track to make way for the one-of-a-kind Talladega Garage Experience, which will allow fans to be immersed into the sport of NASCAR like never before. It will feature “up-close” access, interactive attractions and enhanced amenities for fans, sponsors, teams and stakeholders in the iconic Talladega infield. The culmination of the project will occur this October. To learn more,  visit www.talladegasuperspeedway.com/transformation.
