With the month of March about to begin so too are the preparations for the racing season at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway.
Track personal will be very busy during the coming weeks priming the paved ¼-mile facility for a much awaited Opening Night scheduled for Saturday evening, April 6 that will be spotlighted with a 100-lap/$3000-to-win Modified feature and include regular feature races for Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks.
The following afternoon, Sunday, April 7 from noon to 4:00 pm, the Green Flag Racing Experience will be on hand to give anyone interested the opportunity to take laps in a TQ Midget. The East Coast TQ Midgets will also have track time as part of a Test and Tune with the club that has booked select Sunday events that will coincide with the special Evergreen Raceway/Mahoning Valley Speedway Enduro Series.
On Opening Night there will be a select number of tickets given to a few lucky fans to return the next day and drive one of the Green Flag Racing Experience cars.
March also means practice days which will be held on the 16th, 23rd, 30th & 31st. All regular Mahoning classes as well as any other divisions are welcome to take advantage for these dates to shake down their cars. It is highly encouraged for all Mahoning teams to utilize this time to have their mounts inspected.
The First Annual Party in the Pits is also on the March calendar of events. Taking place on Saturday, March 30, “The Party in the Pits” is an open invite to all for a festive gathering in celebrating the champions and top divisional point finishers of the 2018 and welcome in the 2019 season.
The affair starts at 5 pm following that day’s practice. It will be a relaxing casual setting under a sizable party tent. A pig roast with all the trimmings will be served at 6 pm. There will be music, games and door prizes. And, anyone wishing to camp overnight will be served breakfast the next morning.
Point fund monies and trophies will be awarded to the Modified, Street Stock and Hobby Stock top-10. Late Model and Pro-4 top-8, Dirt Mod top-7 and Sportsman Modified top-5.
Drivers must attend to claim award money.
The cost is $35 per person with special pricing for kids. Tickets will be available to purchase at the track on March 2nd & 3rd + March 9th & 10 from 12-3 pm. Arrangements can be made for those that live a distance away. No tickets available at the door.
