Talladega Superspeedway, in conjunction with NASCAR, announced that the starting times for both its 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events – the GEICO 500, set for Sunday, April 28, and the 1000Bulbs.com 500, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 13 – will be at 1 p.m. CDT.
The GEICO 500 will air live on FOX and MRN while the 1000Bulbs.com 500 will be live on NBC and MRN. Both races earlier this year also had a 1 p.m. CDT start time.
The GEICO 500 will be part of a tripleheader weekend (April 26-28) that will also feature the NASCAR Xfinity Series, as well as the ARCA Racing Series with the General Tire 200. Times for those events will be announced at a later date. That weekend will also feature the opening of the track’s new Oversized Vehicle Tunnel, part of the approximately $50 million Transformation Infield Project that is part of International Speedway Corporation’s (Talladega’s parent company) long-term capital allocation plan and reinvestment into its major motorsports complexes. The new two-lane tunnel will be capable of allowing vehicles as large as race team haulers, fans’ recreational vehicles as well as track tram vehicles (to take fans who have both infield admission and grandstand seating) to enter and exit the track simultaneously with ease. It will be open 24 hours during event weekends. Also slated to be ready for spring 2019 is the 67-spot Finish Line Premium RV area (located just past the start-finish line & includes full hookups), as well as new Infield Shower Trailers.
The culmination of Transformation will occur in October 2019 and will allow fans to be immersed into the sport of NASCAR with a one-of-a-kind Garage Fan Zone Experience, which will feature “up-close” access, interactive attractions and enhanced amenities for fans, sponsors, teams and stakeholders in the iconic Talladega infield. The fall weekend will consist of NASCAR Playoff races for not only the 1000Bulbs.com 500 but also the Sugarlands Shine 250 for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Trucks Series. Time of the green flag for the Sugarlands Shine 250 will come at a later date.
