Richmond Raceway Goes “Under the Lights” for Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting

Richmond Raceway (Richmond) went “under the lights” at its annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting tonight. Members of the local community united at the Richmond Raceway Complex to celebrate the start of the holiday season in RVA.

The Community Christmas Tree lighting took place at Richmond Raceway’s Main Gate, located at the corner of Laburnum Avenue and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. The event included music, the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree, and concluded with a special visit by Santa Claus, arriving courtesy of the Henrico Fire Department.

“Our annual lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at Richmond Raceway has become a symbol of unity in the region,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “We thank the RVA community for joining us to celebrate the season and share in our holiday cheer tonight. The greater Richmond region is invited to bring their family and friends to Richmond Raceway throughout the holiday season to see and take a photo with the Community Christmas Tree by the Main Gate.”

Matt DiNardo, meteorologist for WRIC ABC 8 News, was once again the master of ceremonies for the annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting. Students from Laburnum Elementary School and L. Douglas Wilder Middle School thoughtfully crafted decorations for the Community Christmas Tree. Musical entertainment was provided by the Laburnum Elementary School choir and the Mighty Marching Warriors from Henrico High School. Hot chocolate and cookies were generously provided by the Henrico High School Football Boosters.

Now that the Richmond Raceway Community Christmas Tree is lit, it will shine bright each night throughout the holiday season. The community is invited to bring their family and friends to Richmond throughout the holiday season to visit and take a photo with the Community Christmas Tree by the Main Gate.
