Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway Presents “Bayport Credit Union/ Speed Club Center Night at the Races”

Local short track racing returned to Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway with an exceptional race card featuring eleven races in nine different race divisions. Thanks in part to the rains canceling racing in recent weeks, it was business as usual at the .397 mile oval on a night of guaranteed nonstop racing action. On the evenings race schedule were the Cycle City Bandeloros and Legends series. Riverside Paper Pro Six’s returned to race duty with the Harris Truck Shop Super Trucks and the Carroll’s Automotive UCAR’s. Bojangles Enduro’s would see action once again with Old Skool Video Games Super Streets returning as well. In twin race action, Pepsi Grand Stocks along with the Taylor Waste Services Late Models highlighted the much anticipated evening of racing. Here’s the recap of all the exciting race action.

Cycle City Corps Bandeloros 15 Laps: Wesley Newell picked up his first pole of the 2017 race season with a lap set at 21.632 seconds. Jacob Putman would share the front row starting second just ten thousandths of a second of the lap of Newell’s. Green flag racing began and the pole sitter would show the field into turn one. He was then harassed by Jacob Putman for the lead but Putman had to settle for second as the leader held his line. The race experienced only one caution as Newell would hold off the charge of Putman for his first win in the Bandeloros Division. The race winner had this to say in Victory Lane, “Thank you, yeah, I wanna thank my dad, thanks to Jody and my mom”.

Taylor Waste Services Late Models Twin 66’s: Nick Smith had the fastest lap in Late Model qualifying, posting up a 16.059 second circuit to win the pole. Greg Edwards was only sixteen thousandths off the pole lap and would start shotgun in row one. Connor Hall, Brenden Queen and Matt Waltz were the five best in qualifying. Green flag waved to the pole sitter Nick Smith would need a lap to secure the point from Greg Edwards in an early battle for the lead. Once settled in single file, Matt Waltz, Mark Wertz were early movers to the front just a few laps into the race. The race then experienced two caution periods where Connor Hall’s night ended abruptly in the turn three wall. But back up front, it was leader Nick Smith being chased by Greg Edwards as the halfway had approached. Several laps later into the feature saw the lead change three times as Greg Edwards, Nick Smith traded spots before Matt Waltz after serving a rough driving penalty earlier in the race came through the field to take the lead. From there and in clean air, Matt Waltz would go on to win the first Late Model feature. Waltz from Victory Lane, “The wheel was straight when I was good, definitely want to apologize to Connor, that’s was all me, that was my fault”, admitted the race winner. “Kinda disappointed about the call to put us in the back when that hadn’t happened to anyone else out here but we came back and won it anyways. I just got to thank all these guys and thank everybody for coming out here tonight”. In the nightcap, Casey Wyatt was the pole sitter for the second race feature by virtue of his eighth place finish and by NASCAR’s invert rule. Green flag waved as Wyatt jumped out to an early lead with Danny Edwards Jr in tow. Soon a battle for the lead as Danny Edwards Jr gets to the bottom of Wyatt to take the race lead. But the lead changes for the feature had just begun as Brenden Queen spent time up front as did Matt Waltz. But suddenly the Queen, Waltz battle for the lead took a turn as contact with the leaders sent both cars spinning to bring out the caution. Inheriting the race lead as the halfway was completed was Greg Edwards who would have to survive two race restarts before amounting a sizable race lead over second place runner Nick Smith. In the latter portions of the race saw Matt Waltz worked his way back to second as Cameron Bowen showed muscle running fourth. But back up front it was all Greg Edwards in an eventful Late Model feature. Greg Edwards in Victory Lane, “Yeah, we kinda got knocked back there again at the beginning of the race like we did in the first one, I just didn’t panic”, said the race winner. “We made the right adjustments in between the races, I need to thank this for some people. John McMasters, the date of his death was yesterday, he was on our team. My Uncle Arthur Bristow, my mom’s brother, were celebrating this for him, he passed away this week. It’s a big deal for us, glad to get this car up front in clean air again, it’s just where she likes to be”.

Pepsi Grand Stocks Twin 25’s: Rodney Boyd nabbed up his fourth pole in the Grand Stock division sporting an 18.177 second lap. The hot wheel of Tommy Sweeney’s qualifying lap earned him the two spot in row one with Mark Frye, Tim Wilson and Paul Lubno rounding out the top five on the grid. Green flag racing began as Boyd showed the field into turn one and easily secured the point by turn two. From the three spot, Mark Frye would use up Tommy Sweeney for second as Paul Lubno was an early mover as well. Rodney Boyd would enjoy his race lead for much of the feature before Frye would catch the race leader. But with two laps to go, the leader Boyd would spin off the bumper of Frye to bring out the caution, Frye would be forced to start in the rear for rough driving. Back to the green to decide the feature, Boyd would rebound and come back to win the first Grand Stock feature. Boyd in Victory Lane, “Almost again we had one taken away from us just out there riding”, claimed Rodney Boyd. “After the last incident involving Tommy Sweeney, tore our car up, these things aren’t as easy to fix as people think they are. It takes a lot of effort, a lot of hard work to find the piece that’s bent but we found it, still gotta do a little more adjustment”. In the Grand Stock second feature, Kevin Morgan assumed the race pole after the mandatory eight car invert. Green flag would wave as pole sitter Kevin Morgan would lead lap one followed by Tommy Sweeney taking a turn at the lead on lap two of the event. Paul Lubno with Tim Wilson were some of the early movers before race leader Tommy Sweeney slowed to bring out the caution. Back to the green saw Paul Lubno as the race leader who would continue his race lead to the halfway. But then came race one winner Rodney Boyd who started eighth from the mandatory invert to take the race lead as there would only be a few laps left in the feature. Once in clean air, Boyd would go on to win the second Grand Stock feature. Boyd from Victory Lane,” Competition is tough in our division”, explained Boyd. “When you think a guy who qualifies last can’t run up front, it proved tonight. Kevin Morgan held his own on the outside and did a helluva job. I waited my time, picked the times when it was right to make my move, it was good battling with Paul Lubno. Old Skool Video Games Super Streets 40 Laps: Division points leader Landon Abbott picked up his third pole on the season with a posted lap at 19.057 seconds. Jason Michaud was a surprise to the grid starting second as Randy Akers, Bill Eaker Jr and Dale Parro were the five best in qualifying. The green flagged waved as Landon Abbott made quick work of Jason Michaud in the early portions of the feature. Soon after, the race leader was run down by Randy Akers who would soon pass Abbott for the race lead. But right back came Abbott to retake the race lead at the halfway. Much beating and banging was going on in the front before the first caution waved. On the ensuing restart, Landon Abbott continued to lead but laps later would surrender his lead to Bill Eaker Jr as only a handful of laps remained. Once by, Bill Eaker Jr never looked back to pick up his first win of the year. Bill Eaker Jr in Victory Lane, “We’ve been doing a lot better lately”, claimed the race winner. “We found some things wrong with the car and got those fixed, now were running better. Big Dave has been coaching me and getting me driving the car better. I just wanna thank my crew, just want to thank all my sponsors”.

Cycle City Legends 25 Laps: Brian May grabbed up the race pole in Legends race action setting a lap at 18.141 seconds. Tommy Jackson Jr was thirty thousandths off the pole speed earning his share of the front row. Cody Carlton along with Spencer Saunders and Daniel Sylvestri was qualifying’s five best. Race action began as Brian May would lead lap one. Spencer Saunders would do away with both Cody Carlton and Tommy Jackson Jr from the fourth position to take second in search for the race leader. Laps later, Saunders would catch race leader Brian May and would soon pass May for the race lead. After a brief race caution, Saunders would win the restart into turn one and from there, go on to win the Legends race feature. Spencer Saunders from Victory Lane, “Man this feels great, after qualifying fourth I wasn’t sure what we had for the race”, said the race winner. “I had a feeling that we would be pretty good, once we took the lead it seemed like we never looked back. I really hated to see that caution with five to go, seems like when you want one, you never get it and when you don’t want one you get one anyways. Just glad we were able to hold them off, just want to thank my dad and mom, all the fans for coming out”.

Riverside Paper Pro Six’s 30 Laps: Adam Florian picked up his fifth pole on the season boasting a 17.525 second lap to earn the race pole. Travis Wall posted a lap worthy to start second on the grid. Race action began with Adam Florian taking an early lead to the race, Travis Wall had issues at the start when apparently, he may have missed a gear. JB Sipe from the six spot would benefit from the matter and would show second in chase of the race leader. Also benefitting from Wall’s miscue was race leader Adam Florian who mounted up a sizable race lead just a few laps completed in the feature. It was from there that JB Sipe would give his best to run down the leader but Adam Florian was dominant and went on to win the Pro Six race feature. Adam Florian from Victory Lane had this to say, “We’ve been working hard, we don’t stop, when we win won weekend, we go back to the house, tear her back down and get her back right”, shared Florian from Victory Lane. My dad, Tommy Spencer and TSM Motorsports, nonstop on this thing all week. My brother does an awesome job on the radio, this sets the pace for the rest of the year, to the front we go”.

Harris Truck Shop Super Trucks 25 Laps: Chase McAdams continues to impress in Super Truck qualifying nabbing up his fifth pole on the year. His lap at 19.253 seconds was better than Dustin Mullins but worthy of a share in the front row. Race action began as McAdams would showe the field into turn one. Dustin Mullins who started shotgun to the race leader would go into chase mode followed by Jacob Carr in the early goings of the race. Halfway into the feature saw McAdams build a fourteen car length lead over Mullins who was unable to collapse the race lead as the halfway was complete. As the race entered into the latter stages, McAdams continued his dominating performance who would go flag to flag in a caution free race for the feature win. McAdams from Victory Lane, “Oh yeah, she’s on a rail, just kept getting faster and faster, I was even off the brakes there at the end”, claimed the race winner. “I even got a love tap from my dad on the back straight away, I had to dodge that one”.

Carroll’s Automotive UCAR’s 25 Laps: Tommy Gildea was the afternoon’s qualifying pole sitter for his first pole run of the year. His lap at 19.438 seconds bested Eric Schaffer’s efforts but worthy to be on the front row in UCAR division qualifying. Green flag was shown to the grid and race leader Tommy Gildea began work as the race leader. Several laps in, Eric Schaffer began his assault on the race leader as the battle intensified after some beating and banging occurred. But suddenly the race leader Gildea went spinning off the bumper of Schaffer but was able to hold on without wrecking. New race leader was Eric Schaffer but back came Gildea with a bump of his own and retook the race lead. Handful of laps left and soon would come Michael Waters from the three spot who would eventually take the lead and go on to win his ninth win in a row. Waters from Victory lane.” It’s fun, I was back there watching those guys use each other up, I wish they would have given each other room and save their tires better. I’d like to see Thomas out here in Victory Lane, he deserves it, he’s been working hard. Car was tight in qualifying, messed that one up, qualified third, Thomas just keeps getting faster and faster so I’m glad he’s getting near me”.

Bojangles Enduros 30 Laps: Cullen Roberts pulled the one pill to get the pole in a sixteen car field in Enduro race action. Green flag racing took to the track and Cullen Roberts would lead in turn one but would surrender the lead to Richard Quinn by turn two. But suddenly the leader experienced troubles and the lead was taken by Roanald Klein. After a lap as the leader, Kline then was passed by Tyler Baker who was being chased by Alex Floroff who was just a car length away as the halfway was completed. Laps later, Alex Floroff would make his move by taking the race lead and from there, go on to win in Enduro race action. Floroff from Victory Lane, “That was crazy, I pretty much started last just because I got here late”, said the race winner. “But it was a great night I can tell you that I mean, really didn’t think I had a chance. Been battling this car with fuel problems but she stuck through the whole night so I appreciated it. Gotta thank Bojangles for sponsoring this race division and Larry King Law for bringing everything back”.
