Drifting, Car Shows, Test & Tune on Tap for Busy Weekend at Evergreen

Spring has sprung and auto enthusiasts across the tri state area are excited for the 2017 season at Evergreen Raceway. Unlike many past years, there is plenty of other activities scheduled at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval this coming weekend, much of which is somewhat unique to the long time Evergreen fans. With that said, there will be plenty of action both on and off the track this coming weekend, including Drifting and a pair of car shows on Saturday, plus a test and tune session at the speedway on Sunday.

For the first time in many years, Fairway Motors in Hazleton has returned to Evergreen as an affiliate sponsor. The two businesses are focused on cross promoting each other and the first sign of that is an upcoming Evergreen Raceway race car show at their 101 North Church Street dealership on Saturday, April 29 from 11 AM through 5 PM

Speedway promoter, Jason Makarewicz and announcer, Ted Grow will be heading up the Fairway show that afternoon. They will also be on hand to answer questions and discuss the future of Evergreen Raceway with visitors.

Presented by Sinster, “Drift Evergreen” will take place at the speedway on Saturday as well. For those unfamiliar with drifting, it’s a very entertaining experience to witness, plus it’s an absolute blast to ride with one of the drifting aces, if people choose to go that route. For all of the Sublime fans out there, the event is Entitled the “April 29, 1992 Riot At Evergreen” and it will feature two courses for the drivers.

The drifting event will be overseen by Jeff Owler. Owler is the Competition Director at the speedway.

The gates will open at 8 AM and tech inspection will take place from 8-10 AM. The driver’s meeting is slated for 10 AM and the on course activities will take place following the meeting. The cost for the event is $50 to drive, $15 to ride as a passenger, or $10 for general spectator admission. Children 12 years of age and younger will be admitted into the grandstand area for free.

Hosted by Northeast Cruisers Motors Club, a car corral, swap meet, flea market and collector car show will take place in a section of the grass spectator parking lot at the speedway on Saturday, April 29 from 10 AM through 4 PM.

Open to all types of vehicles, the cost for the car corral is just $15. It’s only $10 to display a vehicle and $15 to be a vendor at the event. Spectator admission is just $2 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Drifting spectators will receive free admittance to the car show and flea market.

Awards will be presented during the afternoon of the show and music will be provided by speedway co-promoter, Gene Ostrowski.

A test & tune date is planned for Sunday, April 20. Drivers from all of the speedway’s regular divisions, including the

American Rental Equipment Modified Series, Himmer Graphics Late Models, Barbush Automotive Street Stocks, Wheel’s Bar & Grill Strictly Stocks, Bob’s Sub’s Outlaw Stocks, Evan’s Roadhouse Four Cylinders, Wheel’s Bar & Grill Jr. Four Cylinders, INEX Legends and Evergreen Enduro Series, presented by Sponenberg’s Exhaust are invited to participate.

The pit gates are slated to open at 11:00 AM. Following a quick drivers meeting, drivers will take to the track in divisional groups beginning at 12:30 PM. Practice will conclude at approximately 5 PM.
