Evergreen’s “March Enduro Madness” Triple Crown Finale is Slated for March 18

Thanks to the support received from the first two of three “Triple Crown Series” events, it’s been a successful start to the 2017 season at Evergreen Raceway. The final leg of the series is slated for Saturday, March 18 and the first two events have been nothing short of exciting and entertaining.

The “Triple Crown Series” are points paying events. The top five finishers in each 4-Cylinder and 6/8-Cylinder Enduro will receive a payout and trophy, in accordance with Evergreen’s Enduro payout schedule, which is listed on their website.

Drivers will receive one point per position based on where they finish after tech inspection (one point per position. Ex: 20 cars, winner gets 20 pts, 2nd gets 19, etc).

Several sponsors have come onboard for the series, including Wheel’s Bar & Grill and Piechota’s Service Center, who added an extra $100 to the Four Cylinder race winner for each event during the three race series.

Drivers are asked to keep a tally of their mileage to the track, as kitchen managers Kevin and April Makarewicz will present the furthest traveled 6/8-cylinder Enduro racer with a $100 Visa gift card.

Following the conclusion of their final Triple Crown Series event in March, which is named “March Enduro Madness”, the top 10 in points in each division will receive trophies for their efforts and the top five will receive a payout:

4-Cylinders: 1. $150 2. $100 3. $75 4. $50 5. $25

6/8-Cylinders: 1. $150 2. $100 3. $75 4. $50 5. $25

The Four Cylinder drivers that finish second through fifth in points will each receive a $25 gift certificate for Wheel’s Bar & Grill.

Aside from a champion being declared in each division, the driver with the best average finish after all three events in each of the two divisions will be deemed the Triple Crown winner. It is very possible that the three race champion will also be the Triple Crown champ. In the event of a points tie, the driver with the most wins or highest average overall finish in the three events will earn the highest spot.

Thanks to additional sponsorship from Piechota’s Service Center, the Four Cylinder Triple Crown Champion will receive $850 and the 6/8-Cylinder Triple Crown champion will take home $500.

The trophies and payout will be distributed at the Triple Crown Series banquet, which will take place shortly after the conclusion of the series. A date and venue will be announced in the near future.

Heading into the finale, a mere five points separate first through sixth in the Four Cylinder standings and Pete Verwys has an overall finish of 4.5, followed by Kyle Laubach and Bob Wink, who are right behind with an average finish of fifth.

Harry O’Neill sits atop the 6/8-Cylinder standings with a five point margin over “Woot” Lawrence. With a pair of wins after the first two events, O’Neill maintains the best overall finish of first, followed by Lawrence who has a third place average.

This event will take place, rain, snow, sleet or shine. It will only get postponed if the weather and road conditions to the track are simply too dangerous for driver and spectator travels to the speedway.

Drivers can save $10 by pre-registering. The pre-registration fee is $40 per event. If drivers are not pre-registered on race day, the fee to compete is $50.

Upon arrival at the track, drivers will pull pills for their starting positions. All pre-registered drivers will start ahead of those who were not pre-registered. All drivers must visit the track office upon arrival to the track. Each driver will receive a slip with their starting position. Any pre-registered driver(s) who are not present for the drivers meeting will have to start at the rear of the field. No exceptions.

The pit gates will swing open for all of the series events at 10 AM. The drivers meeting will take place at 12 noon and racing will kick off at 1:00 PM.

Grandstand admission for each event is just $5. Pit admission is $25 and the transponder rental fee is $10.

A small rule amendment has been made since the February event, which excludes turbo and/or super charged vehicles. The rules, payout and pre-registration list are located at EvergreenRacewayPark.com.

The concession stand at the track will be open for business during all of the events.

A pre-season tickle of some of the speedway’s regular divisions is scheduled for Sunday, March 28. “Four Banger Sunday” will feature exhibition, non-points events for the Legends and Bandoleros. The speedway’s regular Evan’s Roadhouse Four Cylinder and Wheel’s Bar & Grill Junior Four Cylinder divisions will also take part in the action. With the track actively seeking additional sponsorship for the special show, it’s more than likely that drivers will see an increase in purse money as well.
