Evergreen Raceway’s 23rd Annual King of the Green (KoG) second of two weekends will be taking place this coming Saturday afternoon and headlined by the Tour Type Modifieds running in a 75-lap/$3000-to-win feature and $500 to take the green.
Race time is slated for 12:30 pm.
For the Tour Type Modifieds here in the northeast the KoG has become one of the premier events. It all began in 2000 when Russ Frantz would win the very first KoG and since then many have competed in the extra-distance race yet only nine different winners have their names tagged to KoG victories during the past 23 outings.
Current asphalt Modified kingpin Matt Hirschman leads the way with an unprecedented nine KoG wins including twice winning it three times in a row.
Brian DeFefo – Evergreen’s all-time winningest driver with 86 overall victories – is a two-time KoG winner as is Earl Paules Jr., and Zane Zeiner. Single event victors includes Ike Iddings, Eric Beers, Tony Hanbury Rusty Smith, Roger Coss and last year Lou Strohl.
Fans can expect a star-studded field for this year’s edition of the KoG as calls have been coming in on a regular basis giving a great indication as to an excellent field of cars that will be on hand.
Time Trails will set the starting grid for the Modified feature.
Also on the docket will be the Himmer Graphic Four Cylinders in a 40-lap/$500-to win main event. The very popular Rotten-and-Forgotten will be running in a 30-lap feature. Also joining in on the day’s action will be the INEX Legends going a distance of 40 laps and the Bandolero’s contesting in a 20 race.
Those said classes will each run heats to determine their respective starting line-ups.
Pit gates and registration opens at 9:00 am. Registration will close at 11:00 am. A drivers meeting will take place at 10:30 am.
Regular practice gets underway at 11:00 am and will run to 11:30 am. The Tour Type Modifieds will then have their practice round from 11:30 pm to noon. Racing will start at 12:30 pm with Tour Type Modified time trials up first followed be heats.
Pit admission is $50 and $20 at the front gate. Kids 12 and under are free. Main grandstands open at 11:00 am.

In the event of inclement weather the rain date will be Sunday, October 20.
On Friday there will be open practice session for all classes from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm or longer if needed. Friday pit admission is $25 per person. The kitchen will be open also.
There will be a season-ending Enduro planned for Saturday, November 9. Additional details will be forthcoming.
