Stockton’s Caden Sarale held off 2024 points leader Jeffrey Pahule in both Super 600 and Non-Wing as part of an exciting Friday penultimate night for the 2024 Delta Speedway presented by Valley Strong Credit Union season. Aubri Huckleberry and David Anderson also scored wins on the 1/7th mile dirt track in Stockton.
Sarale swept the Super 600 and Non-Wing Micro Sprint championships at Delta Speedway over the course of three consecutive seasons from 2019 through 2021. Pahule aims to add that accomplishment to his resume this year.
Pahule started on the pole alongside Sarale for the Super 600 30-lap feature. A stumble on the start allowed Sarale to sweep past him to lead lap one. Pahule then battled for second with 2022 championship sweeper Nikko Panella of Stockton. Panella surrendered second when he spun in lapped traffic on lap 16. Sarale enjoyed a five-car length advantage over the final half of the feature, followed by Pahule, Rocklin’s Tucker Lacaze, Trevino, and Fresno’s Mattix Salmon.
Incoming second in points Logan Trevino of Madera led the Super 600 time trials. Heat races were claimed by Sarale and Fresno’s Mattix Salmon.
Sarale kicked off his winning effort in Non-Wing by claiming time trial honors over 18 entries. Madera Ranchos’ Dalton Hill and Pahule then split the heat races. He started the 30-lap nightcap with Sarale on the pole with Pahule on his outside. Pahule used a crossover move into turn one on the second lap to lead lap two.
A multi-car crash on lap seven erased Pahule’s advantage however. Sarale hounded the back of Pahule until finally making move for the lead on lap 18.
Caden Sarale drove to his second checkered flag of the night followed by Pahule, Panella, Colin Kirby, and Salmon.
“That one definitely wore me out a little bit. Track changed a lot from the (Super) race. I felt pretty good there staying behind (Pahule) for most of the (race). Was waiting for the right time and it stuck. Great race,” Sarale said.
Tracy’s Levi Osborne topped Restricted qualifying. Manteca’s Briggs Davis and Johnny Streeter of Thornton won the heat races.
Osborne started on the pole next to Aubri Huckleberry of Visalia. Huckleberry jumped into the lead. She dominated all 25-laps of the non-stop feature in a wire-to-wire performance. Osborne settled for second over Davis, incoming points leader Hayden Stepps of Oakdale, and Clay Mibach of Placerville.
The four Jr. Sprints heat races were split by David Anderson of Clayton, Heston Stepps of Oakdale, Jayden Carey of Ripon, and Haven Sherman of Citrus Heights.
Anderson ran the entire 20-lap feature with Stepps locked on his rear bumper. Anderson held court for the victory followed by Stepps, Lucas Fenn, Nathan Fernandez, and Samantha Dozier.
The 2024 champions will be decided on Saturday night. Drivers meeting is set for 4:30pm with hot laps and qualifying to follow.
