Darlington Raceway, NASCAR to host numerous community events ahead of Cook Out Southern 500 Weekend

As NASCAR returns to Darlington Raceway August 31 – Sept. 1, the track and the sport will band together to excite the community ahead of the 75th running of the Cook Out Southern 500. Race week events include:

  • Wednesday, August 28 – Track Laps for Charity: Starting at 6 p.m., motorists can drive their personal vehicles three laps around the toughest track in NASCAR for a $25 donation.   • Thursday, August 29 – Terrence Carraway Memorial 5K: Starting at 6:30 p.m., fans can come out and run/walk around the famous 1.366-mile venue in memory of fallen Florence Polic Officer Sgt. Terrence F. Carraway. Runners will receive a t-shirt and a swag bag for their participation. All proceeds will benefit the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation.   • Friday, August 30 – NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Showcase & Parade: From 4 – 5:30 p.m., fans can get an up-close look at the magnificent haulers that take the race cars to and from the racetracks to the team shops. They will be on display and staged at Florence Darlington Technical College for families to get photos, enjoy live music and local vendors, before making their way via parade to the track Too Tough To Tame. The parade begins at 6 p.m. and will go through downtown Darlington (just by the town square), with NASCAR legend and esteemed commentator Kyle Petty serving as the Grand Marshal. New to the parade this year is “Hauler Fest”, taking place from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. featuring a host of musical acts, a variety of local food vendors, show cars and a lot more. The haulers will continue to make their way to historic Darlington Raceway where they will load into the Cale Yarborough NASCAR Cup Series Garage at approximately 7 p.m.
  • Friday – Sunday, August 30 – Sept. 1 – NASCAR Youth Series presented by Cook Out: The sport’s stars of tomorrow will be on full display as the NASCAR Youth Series presented by Cook Out comes to Darlington Raceway. Drivers ages 5-16 will race quarter-midgets in the Manheim of Darlington lots, just off Race Track Road outside of Turns 1 & 2, providing fans with even more action leading up to the 75th annual Cook Out Southern 500 NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Finale on Sunday.   • Saturday – Sunday, August 31 – Sept. 1 – Darlington Raceway Fan Zone Activities: The track’s Fan Zone will be open Saturday and Sunday and feature a host of things for fans to do with various interactives. In addition, there will be souvenir stands that showcase raceway goodies and those from the NASCAR drivers plus food and beverages, vintage race cars, corporate displays. The NASCAR Experience will showcase drivers such as two-time Cook Out Southern 500 winner Erik Jones, 2022 Goodyear 400 winner Joey Logano, Carson Hocevar, and Chase Briscoe along with other personalities as they come out, meet with the fans, and conduct question/answer sessions.

Darlington’s Labor Day Race Weekend begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, with the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200. Then at 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, the NASCAR Cup Series stars will battle to secure their spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs with the Cook Out Southern 500, one of NASCAR’s crown jewel events and the final race of the regular season.
