Bank of America 500 Pit Note 5 – UNOH Southern Slam Winner and Results

Winner Tim Brown (No. 02 Hayes Jewelers / Wall to Wall Mfg. Housing Chevrolet) – “To come here and win at Charlotte is pretty cool. We had a car that had real good bite. We unloaded good and ran well in practice. This is good for all our sponsors who stood behind us all year. It was a great race. We had a great car. I knew George [Brunnhoelzl] was going to be hard to beat. Then a car put some fluid down and we were able to beat him to the inside on the restart. And then we were able to drive on for the victory. It hasn’t been the season we wanted. We are not where we wanted to be in the points. This is something for us to build on for next year. This is a good race team. I would say that this ranks right up there with one of my biggest wins. This is a great deal for our family. I’m all jacked up.”

Second Place George Brunnhoelzl III (No. 09 Phoenix Pre-owned / Triad Auto Sales Chevrolet) – “It was a good race. We had a good qualifying effort to sit on the pole. I couldn’t get in the corner but I had amazing bite. We had track position for a while. And on one of those late restarts he [Brown] just took off before me. And that was it for the rest of the night.” (Question: Will you wrap up your second championship next week?) “That would be a big accomplishment in my eyes. To win one is awesome; to win two I would be speechless. The competition is really tough here. It makes you proud of all the hard work all the guys do. I just want to finish off the opportunity.”

Third Place Burt Myers (No. 1 Capital Bank / Citrusafe Ford) – “It was a similar situation to what we had here last year. We had a car that could roll the center really good. We were just lacking the forward drive we needed off the corner. It was my mistake there at the end. I let the 09 get by on the restart. I had tried to restart in third gear. I had tried that on the caution before, and it worked really good. But this time it burped and I lost a little bit of ground. This season has been up and down for us. We have been getting some top-fives here lately. This is my kind of racing. We brought the same car and the same motor that we had here last year. I think last year I started on the pole, so that helped us a little bit. Track position was the key here. This year we had to start fourth, so we were behind from the get-go. Like I say, I had a good car, it was just the circumstances. It’s all about track position here, and that’s what won the race for Tim [Brown].”
