Vito Cancilla Earns Record-Breaking Win at Madera Speedfest, Breaks Cole Custer’s Mark

Martinez, Calif.’s Vito Cancilla turned in a record-breaking performance in the season-opening Madera SpeedFest, becoming the youngest Pro Late Model winner in Madera Speedway history on March 16, 2024.

Cancilla earned the feat at 12 and a half years old, breaking NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Cole Custer’s mark. Custer set the record in May 2012, when he won his debut Madera Open Late Model feature just four months after his 14thbirthday. The Ladera Ranch, Calif. driver went on to go three-for-three at Madera Speedway in Open Late Models before advancing to the highest levels of stock car racing.

51FIFTY Jr. Late Model Series champion Bradley Erickson of Phoenix, Ariz. won the Turkey Triple Open Non-Points race in 2020 at age 14 years and five months as well.

Cancilla will look to continue his path to a 2024 Pro Late Model Series presented by Mission Foods championship when the series resumes on April 6. The nine-race championship is televised on MAVTV with Monday night broadcasts beginning this April.
