NASCAR Hauler Showcase and Parade to kick off race weekend on Thursday, Sept. 26 in Dover

Dover International Speedway is pleased to announce a special kickoff to the Sept. 27-29, 2013 race weekend with an all-new fan event, the NASCAR Hauler Showcase and Parade. The event is set for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Blue Hen Corporate Center in Dover.

Fans are invited to the Blue Hen Corporate Center, located at 655 S. Bay Road just four miles south of the Monster Mile on Route 113, to see the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series haulers before they take off at 6 p.m. on a parade route through Downtown Dover. The trucks will be lined up in order based on the current NASCAR point standings.

The Hauler Showcase and Parade is free and open to the public.

The parade will create quite a spectacle in the state capitol. Approximately 40 brightly painted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver haulers, measuring approximately 80-feet in length, will make their way through town on their way to the Speedway.

Dover Mayor Carleton E. Carey, Sr. proposed the idea to Speedway officials earlier this year after seeing similar events in other towns that host NASCAR race weekends.

“Residents and guests will certainly know that race weekend in Dover has arrived,” said Mayor Carey. “Bringing the NASCAR Hauler Showcase and Parade to the City of Dover is something that will serve as a great kickoff to the weekend, and will get local fans and out-of-towners excited about the tripleheader weekend. The City of Dover is thrilled to help kick off this major event that brings our town national attention.”

“We’re always looking for new ways to entertain our fans throughout race weekend,” said Michael Tatoian, executive vice president and COO of Dover Motorsports, Inc. “With the help of Mayor Carey and his team, we are pleased to add another free fan event to race weekend. And special thanks must go to the hauler drivers for being so accommodating.”

The showcase will kick off at 4 p.m. in the Blue Hen Corporate Center before departing on the parade route at 6 p.m. Haulers will start north on Bay Road, before making a left onto Martin Luther King Blvd. (formerly Court Street). They will then turn right onto Legislative Avenue in Downtown Dover, before turning left onto Loockerman Street, then right on South State Street. From there, the haulers will proceed to the track via Leipsic Road and arrive at approximately 6:45 p.m.
