Law Enforcement Officers to Get a Feel for NASCAR Racing During KYS Top Cop Challenge Aug. 23

Sixteen law enforcement officers representing eight jurisdictions will compete head-to-head in Richard Petty Driving Experience NASCAR stock cars on Kentucky Speedway’s 1.5-mile tri-oval during the Top Cop Challenge Friday, Aug. 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Officers representing the City of Cincinnati, Butler Co., Ohio, Hamilton Co., Ohio, City of Florence, Ky., City of Lexington, Ky., Gallatin Co., Ky., Oldham Co. Ky., and the Kentucky State Police will open the challenge with a two-officer team competition that will ultimately determine three officers who will have the chance to become Top Cop.

The Top Cop will be the Honorary Starter for the speedway’s Sept. 21 NASCAR Nationwide Series Kentucky 300 event. The second series race of the season at the speedway is part of a doubleheader weekend that begins with the ARCA Racing Series Zloop 150 on Sept. 20.

Each team member will race six timed laps around the speedway’s 1.5-mile tri-oval. The team which generates the fastest average during its session will be the Top Cop Challenge Team Champion. The highest ranking officer from the three best teams will compete head-to-head for the individual championship.

Fans can view the competition from a designated area outside Turn 3 at the speedway for free.
