Enhancing its already prevalent community involvement in the Greater Richmond Metropolitan Area, the Richmond International Raceway staff is stepping up its volunteer efforts this year. The track’s increasing volunteerism is coming on the heels of The NASCAR Foundation announcing “NASCAR Unites,” an industry initiative that creates an opportunity for NASCAR fans, drivers, teams, tracks, sponsors and more to unite to improve lives across the nation.
“Now more than ever, we realize the need for giving back to our community,” said track president Doug Fritz. “Our goal is to enhance the lives of as many area residents as possible through our volunteer efforts this year. We are committed to providing a service to the community and we hope other businesses and individuals will join us in our efforts.”
Today, Richmond International Raceway’s team delivered meals to seniors, people with disabilities and disadvantaged populations through Meals on Wheels of Greater Richmond. Next month, the staff will assist Henrico County’s Operation Paintbrush project, assisting low-income homeowners with maintaining their home through painting and repairs. This summer the staff will assist the Central Virginia Foodbank by replenishing shelves and sorting food items. More volunteer projects will be organized later this year.
Through the NASCAR Unites campaign, the Foundation is encouraging fans to pledge at least five hours of volunteer service in an effort to collectively generate more than one million hours of giving back to local communities. Supporters are asked to log their hours online at www.nascar.com/unites. The track staff will add their hours after each service project.
