Hundreds Drive Around Track To Raise Money For Children

Hundreds of Southern Californians showed an outpouring of generosity by bringing their dirty cars to the second annual “Jaylen’s Car Wash” at Auto Club Speedway Friday. Money raised from the charity car wash benefitted Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) and The NASCAR Foundation.

For just a small donation, those visiting Auto Club Speedway pulled onto pit road and had their cars washed by volunteers from Auto Club Speedway and LLUCH, followed by a lap around the track to dry the car – the very same track that NASCAR stars battle side-by-side on.  Each donation also came with a 2011 NASCAR Unites wristband.

In addition to Auto Club Speedway and LLUCH “washers”, others lending a hand at the carwash included volunteers from Kohl’s, Best Buy and NASCAR.  Nearly 60 volunteers in all donated more than 400 volunteer hours to the effort.   Over 300 cars took laps on the track with thousands raised for the charities.

“Giving back to our community is something Auto Club Speedway is extremely passionate about,” said Speedway President Gillian Zucker.  “What a wonderful time hosting yet another successful car wash for our five-year-old friend Jaylen in hopes that his dream of becoming a race car driver, and the dreams of other children at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, might become a reality.”

“Jaylen’s Car Wash” is named after five-year-old Jaylen, a LLUCH heart patient that has a dream of becoming a NASCAR driver when he grows up.  The car wash, a community project launched by Auto Club Speedway in 2010 in support of NASCAR Day, was replicated by over 30 locations across the U.S. as part of the “NASCAR Unites” 2011 national platform.  “NASCAR Unites,” is an industry initiative led by The NASCAR Foundation that creates an opportunity for NASCAR fans, drivers, teams, tracks, sponsors, employees and more to unite and make a difference in the lives of children across the nation.  “NASCAR Unites” engages the sport in a collaborative effort to support children’s causes through volunteering, fundraising, sharing inspirational stories and unifying to make a difference.
