Flowdynamics USAC/CRA Sprint Car drivers Matt McCarthy and Logan Williams made their way to Arizona’s Mohave Valley Raceway and placed 9th and 11th respectively in the 30-lap main event. It was their first and only trip to the track that is located just across the Colorado River in Arizona in 2023.
Twenty-five other racers made up the remainder of the stacked 410 sprint car field. Riverside, California resident McCarthy timed in 17th fastest in qualifying with a lap of 14.813. Williams, who calls Yorba Linda, California home, had the 18th best time at 14.829.
With 27 cars on hand, only the top four finishers in each heat race would transfer straight to the main event. McCarthy, who was coming off an impressive sixth-place finish at Perris Auto Speedway on September 23rd, was the first up of the teammates in heat race action. He earned his ticket into the main event with a strong second-place run in the second 10-lap heat. Moments later in heat three, Williams duplicated McCarthy’s performance when he ran second to go straight into the A main without having to run the 12-lap B.
When the main event cars rolled onto the track for the 30-lap finale, the Flowdynamics teammates, who are both past series Rookies of the Year, started the 30-lapper side-by-side in row nine. McCarthy was on the inside of the row in his #28m and Williams, in his familiar #5w was starting on the outside. For the second race in a row, McCarthy made a major move forward and Williams did the same. In the previous race at Perris Auto Speedway on September 23rd, McCarthy advanced his position five spots going from 11th on the start all the way up to sixth. This time he beat that effort picking up nine spots to finish eighth. Williams was not far behind, picking up seven positions for an 11th-place finish.
Williams maintained his 11th-place position in the championship point standings. McCarthy jumped up two spots to 14th.
Both Flowdynamics drivers will be at Perris for the last race of the track’s 27th season on November 11th. They may also compete in next week’s Western World Championships at the Cocopah Speedway on November 3rd and 4th.
Whenever you get the chance to meet the Flowdynamics drivers in person, be sure to visit them in the pits. They will be glad to sign autographs for you and each will have their fine-looking team shirts available.
If you or your company would like to be a part of one of the West Coast’s most prominent sprint car teams for the upcoming season, please contact John McCarthy at 909 930-5522 or mailto:[email protected].
