Save The Speedway to Move onto new Projects

Save The Speedway announced today that after six years of working to preserve and/or find a way to reopen North Wilkesboro Speedway, their mission has been accomplished.  “2011 begins the second full season that the speedway will be open, and we feel that our goals have been reached, and we have accomplished what we set out to do in 2005”, said Robert Marsden, founder of Save the Speedway.

North Wilkesboro Speedway re-opened last year under a lease agreement between Speedway Motorsports Inc. and Speedway Associates for 3 years, giving the facility a makeover and reopening it for racing. “Save the Speedway agreed to lend support to Speedway Associates for one year “, said Steven Wilson, co-founder with Marsden.

Over the last several months, principals within the Save the Speedway organization have created a mobile concessions business that will serve motorsports events, car shows, fairs, etc.  In addition to the concessions business, Steven Wilson, Co-founder and company Webmaster has launched a NASCAR news and information site that will cover NASCAR top series and local racing called Speedway Digest.

“Savethespeedway.net has become the largest online resource for history regarding North Wilkesboro Speedway, and we intend to keep the site active to document the history of the Speedway.  However we plan to move the North Wilkesboro Speedway information on our site to a new domain, which will allow us to use savethespeedway.net for our next speedway project”, said Wilson.

On behalf of Save the Speedway, Rob, George, Mike, Rick, Ann Marie, and Steven would like to thank everyone for your continued support and dedication to Save The Speedway over the years. It has been our pleasure and honor to keep the history of North Wilkesboro Speedway alive for future generations.
