One and done – Langley Speedway Crowns a Late Model Champion Tonight

My how the season has come and gone it wasn’t but just a few months it’s feels I was just out to cover the opening night of the season. With rainouts galore we are finally down to the last late model race of the year. With the points battle tightened to just 20 points separating the leader Greg Edwards to Wes Falk. Greg will be gunning for his third championship at Langley and Wes in pursuit of his first ensuring it will be a battle to the end.

Going into the last race of the season several drivers answer some questions on their thoughts and strategies.

Greg Edwards 1st in pointsYour 20 points in the lead what is the biggest obstacle to overcome to keep the points lead going into the final race of the season and win the championship?

The Biggest Obstacle will be to stay out of trouble & avoid bad situations at all costs ,to just maintain & stay up front.

As a two time champion what do you think Wes has to do to win the championship?

As far as what Wes needs to do, well, all he can do is the same as myself, just do the best you can.

Wes Falk 2nd in points – Being 20 points down what are you going to do going into Saturday night to get past Greg for the championship?

Just got to go out there and focus on bringing back the trophies, all we can really do at this point is win and hope for some luck.

Looking back over the season is there anything that sets out you could have done different to be in the points lead going into the final race of the year?

The second week was definitely a detriment, getting caught up in that wreck in the first twin took me out of the points lead and put me in a big hole. That and a few less rainouts would of been helpful.

Casey Wyatt 4th in points –  Trailing Lockhart by 8 point you feel that you can make that up Saturday night and take third place?

Yea after practice tonight I feel like we have a shot at winning the race it was the best the car has been all season.

Being around Langley for quite some time any favorites on the points champion winner?

If I was a gambling man I’d put my money on the 29 Saturday night and as far as the champion goes I think Greg will prevail as Langley’s champion this year.

C.E Falk 5th in points- Your running 5th in points and your brother is contenting for a tight points battle any piece of advice you can give him to keep a level head going into the final race of the year?

He knows what he has to do, he’s had a great year. He’s run some great races and won a feature outright. Being in his second year in attack mode, nothing to lose worse he can do is run second or third and that really doesn’t matter unless you’re the champ. He knows he need to win or at least finish several spots ahead of Greg.  There not much you can do other then go race your race and get the best finish you can. He knows that, he’s a good racer enough to know that.

Given the chance are you going to go for the win or would you help your brother out in winning the championship and what would it mean to you if he won?

I’m a big believer in karma and you have to go run your race like a regular night. I’m going to go for a win, I need points just as bad as he does, trying to finish top three in the nation and we can do that with a great finish Saturday night. I have my own agenda, obviously if he needs setup help. I’m always going to look out for him but if he’s got a fast car, I’m going to let him go.

If I’m leading the race and he’s running second, and that’s enough to win the championship, I’ll just got running the race, if he can beat me, if he can’t you just have to just run the race like the fans come out to see.

What do you have going forward for running some more truck races this year?

We’re trying to run some more truck races, right now we are just trying to get through late model season. Those opportunities came up and I just had to take them.

Right now just focusing on the late models and get the best finish we can and go on to Martinsville. It’s a big deal to me to get there and try and win Martinsville, been something that’s been eluding me for a while now.

I love the truck racing, they are a lot of fun to drive I’ve learned a lot and looking forward to getting back.

I would like to thanks Greg, Wes, Casey, and C.E. for taking the time to answer some questions for the fans coming out tonight.
