Toyota Racing Kicks Off Racing for Awareness 8-24-12
Toyota Racing today announced ‘Racing For Awareness,’ a friendly competition among women affiliated with the Toyota NASCAR program -- including wives, girlfriends, mothers and sisters, as well as one racer -- in support of breast cancer awareness. Nine women affiliated with the Toyota Racing program have each used their creativity and vision to design a T-shirt to recognize breast cancer awareness. Fans can vote for their favorite design at www.toyotaracing.com/RacingForAwareness from now through Oct. 4, 2012 at 12 PM (ET).
Each participant created a unique design that incorporated the symbol of breast cancer awareness -- a pink ribbon. The participants were given artistic freedom and were able to include other racing symbols on their choice of a pink, hot pink, white or black T-shirt.
The winning design will be selected based on fan votes and will come to life during the Charlotte Motor Speedway NASCAR race weekend in October. Toyota will donate $500 in the name of each participant to the Charlotte-based charity, Carolina Breast Friends, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.
“We’ve had a great response to the Racing for Awareness contest with the T-shirt designs created by the women of Toyota Racing,” said Les Unger, national motorsports marketing manager for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. (TMS). “The creativity and support all nine women have shown toward this worthwhile cause is extremely meaningful, and we can’t thank the participants enough for their support. We look forward to fans getting behind their favorite T-shirt, and then seeing the winning design come to life in October to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month.”
Participants in the contest include Mackena Bell (Rev Racing driver), Janet Bodine (wife of Todd Bodine), Samantha Busch (wife of Kyle Busch), Jordan Fish/Mary Lou Hamlin (girlfriend and mother of Denny Hamlin), Danielle Logano (sister of Joey Logano), Sara Peters (wife of Timothy Peters), Lorra Podsiadlo (girlfriend of Clint Bowyer), Sherry Pollex
(girlfriend of Martin Truex Jr.) and Cortney Sauter (wife of Johnny Sauter).
The winning design will be unveiled at the Toyota PitPass display during the October race weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and it will be produced and made available for purchase. All proceeds from the sale of the winning T-shirt design will be donated to Carolina Breast Friends in the winning participant’s and driver’s names.
Fans can visit www.toyotaracing.com/RacingForAwareness to cast their vote and also enter to win weekly prizes. Voting will also take place on-site at the Toyota PitPass display at NASCAR events, including this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. The PitPass display will also be onsite during upcoming race weekends at Richmond International Raceway, Chicagoland Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
