Cometic Gasket Looks for Clean Sweep Memorial Day Weekend

Cometic Gasket, Inc., will be well represented in the coming days as the nation turns its attention toward the motorsports world Memorial Day weekend. Drivers, crew chiefs, head mechanics and team owners alike, will rely on Cometic’s dependability and reputation as the go-to gasket for winning teams across multiple disciplines of automobile and motorcycle racing.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be in action Sunday, May 27 at the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway. Multiple teams and engine builders including Richard Childress Racing, Roush Fenway Racing and Triad Racing Technologies will depend on Cometic products to get them to the finish line first in the longest and most grueling race of the season – The Coca-Cola 600.

Just across the street, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invades the Dirt Track at Charlotte where Kasey Kahne Racing and Tony Stewart Racing will attempt to tame the lightning-fast four-tenths mile clay oval. Both teams come to the annual Memorial Day weekend classic armed with engines sealed with gaskets from Cometic. Steve Kinser and Donnie Schatz will carry the flag for TSR while KKR fields full-time teams for drivers Joey Saldana and Cody Darrah, as well as a third part-time team for Brad Sweet.

“It’s an exciting weekend for Cometic,” commented Bob Gorman, Chief Executive Officer of Cometic Gasket, Inc. “We’ve built long lasting relationships with a lot of major players in the racing world and Memorial Day Weekend allows us the opportunity to showcase not only our products, but also the teams who rely on Cometic to get them to the checkered flag. We’ve got a unique opportunity to have a car or motorcycle with Cometic’s gaskets inside the engine win at practically every level. From NASCAR to the World of Outlaws, and from the AMA all the way to USAC, we’ve got an incredible group of teams who utilize our products. It’s something we’re very proud of.”

The United States Auto Club (USAC) has a trio of races on tap this week. The action kicks off Thursday, May 24, with the USAC Sprint Car Series at the Terra Haute (Ind.) Action Track where TSR’s Levi Jones will attempt to notch his first Sprint Car win of the season in the Tony Hulman Classic.

On Friday night, the USAC Silver Crown Series makes its annual stop at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the legendary Hoosier 100, where Jones and teammate Bobby East will compete. Saturday night, the USAC Mopar National Midget Championship heads for Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis for the annual Night Before the 500 50-lapper.

Saturday afternoon, the cars and stars of the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be on display in Charlotte as NASCAR’s junior division competes at the high-banked mile-and-a-half oval. Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr., will attempt to hang on to the points lead and fend off Richard Childress Racing’s Elliott Sadler, Austin Dillon, Joey Coulter and Sprint Cup Series regular Kevin Harvick.

Cometic-sponsored and supported cars will also compete in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series May 25-26 in Wheatland, Mo., in the 20th Annual DART Show Me 100. Jonathan Davenport and Jared Landers will represent Clint Bowyer Racing. Dale McDowell will carry the flag for Team Dillon Racing.

In the two-wheel world, Cometic will be well represented in AMA Pro Flat Track competition at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill., for the Springfield TT and on the Springfield Mile. Jared Mees, Sammy Halbert, Kenny Coolbeth Jr., Brad Baker and Jake Johnson are among the many AMA flat-trackers that ride bikes sealed with Cometic gaskets.

Just over 800 miles south, the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship visits Freestone Raceway in Wortham, Texas, for the 2012 Freestone National. Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Jake Weimer will carry the Cometic decal in Round Two of the professional outdoor season. Additionally, riders Kyle Chisholm and Mike Alessi will be aboard bikes sealed with Cometic products.

“Flat track and motocross racing have both played very important roles in Cometic’s business since we first opened our doors,” said Gorman. “We’ve got some guys at the Springfield Mile that are favorites to win no matter where they go. Between Jake Weimer, Kyle Chisholm and Mike Alessi, it’s anyone guess which one might be on top of the podium at Freestone. Whether it’s on four wheels or two, we really like our chances to win everywhere teams are running Cometic products this weekend.”
