Paralyzed Veterans of America Welcome New Sponsor To Fourth Annual King’s Cup

The King’s Cup – Karting for a Cause benefitting Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) welcomes a new presenting sponsor to the popular event that has become one of the most-notable, fan-friendly events during the May race weeks in Charlotte. Xtreme Motorsports and D&B Motors, long-time advocates of Paralyzed Veterans, continue their support of the organization.

As in years past, the headliners for the event are “The King” Richard Petty and the members of Team PVA. This group of drivers includes Brad Keselowski, AJ Allmendinger, Aric Almirola, Marcose Ambrose, Sam Hornish Jr., Martin Truex Jr. and Parker Kligerman. All will be in attendance to sign autographs and lend their hand to raising awareness for Paralyzed Veterans within the NASCAR community.

“This is our fourth year having the karting event,” said Richard Petty. “It’s just been really cool to see all the fans come out, support Paralyzed Veterans, and then get to race with their friends and other drivers. It’s just been a pretty special deal over the last three or four years for Paralyzed Veterans of America. They have done a really good job of letting the veterans know that we appreciate their sacrifice for our country. This event is fun for them, the veterans, the fans and us as drivers. There isn’t another event like it and we hope to see another large crowd come out this year.”

Activities for the King’s Cup will begin at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 22nd at Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte. Twenty race teams will compete in two heat races to transfer into the main event and an opportunity to hoist the coveted trophy. A standout lineup of corporate sponsors includes Shell/Pennzoil, Sprint, Stanley, The Coca-Cola Company, Walldinger Racing, and Wyndham Vacation Ownership. A silent auction and food, donated by Sysco Foods and prepared by the Brickhouse Tavern, will ensure that there is something for everyone. All of this adds up to an experience that no race fan will want to miss.

“The Damon family has taken Paralyzed Veterans of America under their wings and they hold this charity close to their hearts because of what the Veterans have done, and continue to do, for our country,” said Karen Damon. “We believe in improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. The family applauds the tireless efforts and drive of the PVA staff in supporting and raising money for this exceptional charity.”

“The King’s Cup is a unique event that combines a deep gratitude to our veterans, passion for motorsports, generosity and fun,” said Bill Lawson, National President of Paralyzed Veterans of America. “I would like to thank Richard, Team PVA and our marvelous sponsors for helping us to change lives and build futures for all veterans with disabilities and their families.”

The King’s Cup – Karting for a Cause has raised over $450,000 for Paralyzed Veterans since it began in 2009. Teams and tickets are still available for purchase. For more information, please visit www.pva.org/gokart.
