NWMT: Ron Silk Wins Stafford 150 at Stafford Speedway

Ron Silk came out as the surprise victor in Friday’s Stafford 150 at Stafford Speedway in Connecticut. Silk, making his 48th start at the half-mile paved oval, scored his second career win there in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour after passing leader Justin Bonsignore in a NASCAR Overtime finish.

Silk made it back-to-back wins as the series veteran went to victory lane the last time out at New Hampshire Motor Speedway just two weeks ago.

The driver of the No. 85 Chevrolet started the evening in sixth.

Jon McKennedy ended the night in the runner-up spot looking 0.290 seconds behind the race winner. McKennedy started third on the leaderboard and hung around the third position all night long – trying to keep Silk behind in the fourth position.

The driver of the No. 7 Chevrolet will leave the night with three top five and top 10 finishes in six starts this year. His best finish of the season came in the season opener at Myrtle Beach with a second-place finish.

Doug Coby walked away frustrated after dominating the 150-lap event at Stafford Speedway. Coby started on the pole and held around a seven-second lead before the one and only caution came out with inside five laps to go.

“I don’t get heartbroken … I get f**king pissed off,” Coby told the track pit reporter after the race.

The driver from Connecticut, who led 147 of the 159 laps and finished third, will leave with his seventh top five finish of the season.

Matt Swanson and Craig Lutz rounded out the top five finishers.

Justin Bonsignore, Jimmy Blewett, Bobby Santos III, Sam Rameau and Patrick Emerling took home top 10s.

Coby will continue leading the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver standings by 28 points over tonight’s winner Ron Silk. Justin Bonsignore, who finished the night in sixth at Stafford Speedway, sits third behind the series points leader. Craig Lutz and Eric Goodale, who spun from contact via another car on the final lap, round out the top five.

The series will return at Thompson Speedway on August 14th. The Bud King of Beers 150 will air live on FansChoice.TV.
