Michael Self Ready for First Career Start at Toledo Speedway

ARCA Menards Series championship contender Michael Self (No. 25 Sinclair Oil Toyota) looks to rebound from a disappointing finish in his last outing when he grabs the wheel again for his track debut in Sunday’s Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 at Toledo Speedway.

Already with two victories on the season, Self’s upcoming maiden voyage at Toledo Speedway comes on the heels of an early exit and 15th place finish two weeks ago in Nashville after he was involved in an accident midway through the race while running up front with the leaders.

Self on the strength of short track wins at Five Flags Speedway and Salem Speedway, occupies the second spot in the series’ point standings just 30 points behind Travis Braden. The 28-year-old is confident as he looks to regain his championship swagger heading into another short track weekend.

“Without ever having raced at Toledo I have no idea what to expect, but I do know that the VMS guys have been bringing fast cars to every race this year, so I can have confidence there,” he said. “People have always told me Toledo is a fun, fast track, and I was able to get some laps in when we tested earlier in the week and see that for myself, and I think the track lived up to those hype points. It’s definitely fast, smooth, and challenging.”

Self got a taste of Toledo on Monday afternoon when he joined his Venturini Motorsports teammates for a test date prior to the weekend’s main event.

“I’m really glad we were able to get the Toledo test in this week,” said Self. “It took me the majority of the day to really get a grasp on the track, and even at the end I’m not sure I had it down all that well. Our car was good and responded to changes which is always encouraging, so I need to go back this week and watch some video and think about the track and come back a little more prepared.”

Self, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah has made the most of his time in the ARCA series – posting five wins, 14 top-five’s and 14 top-10 finishes over 24 career starts.

Practice for the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 at Toledo Speedway is scheduled for 12:30 pm ET on Saturday, May 18, followed by General Tire Pole Qualifying at 4 pm ET. The Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 will go green shortly after 2 pm ET on Sunday, May 19. The race will be televised live on MAVTV.
