Langley Speedway opens season with a wild night of racing – Results

Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA opened their doors Saturday night kicking off their 62nd season of racing in Hampton Roads with the HRKC Pro Winged Champ Carts with Jake Harberts sitting on the pole, taking to the track for 20 laps of action, following an incident down in turn 3 seeing one cart sitting on its side smashed against the wall and a scoring issues on the cart, we saw Charlie-Ray Lorah taking the first checkered flag of the night.

Next on tap for the night the Super Truck took to the track for the first of their two Twin-20 races of the night Tommy Nixon took to the pole but in the end Troy Turnage would end up the victor in the first of the two 20 lap features for the trucks. The action really heated up in the second of the twin 20 features with Troy taking to the pole with the lineup set by finishing order in the first race. Following several good hard laps of racing the 04 truck of Brad Adams gets tangled up on the front stretch seeing his truck flipping and landing on the roof. The night did bode well for Turnage who in the closing laps was involved in an incident taking him out of the race lead and allowing Robbie Davis to take the win in the second truck race of the night.

Rounding the final support races of the night the Standard Welding Pro Sixes taking to the track for 30 laps of action seeing Steve Williams sitting on the pole for the nights feature. In the end Bobby Hall would take the win over Anthony Perez leaving pole sitter Williams finishing in the third position. UCARS also saw action with Bill Eakers not only sitting on the pole but taking the checkered flag in the end.

But the race of the night for the EZ Auto Late Models taking on 100 laps of racing action, with no surprise seeing one of the Edward’s brothers sitting up front, this time it was Greg Edwards taking the pole with a speed of 89.417 mph. With the green flag in the air Greg jumps to an early lead over Nick Smith. With just 8 laps completed the first caution of the night comes out for Casey Wyatt getting into Brandon Gdovic, seeing Gdovic spin down in turn 3. After getting back under green it was looking as if it would be an all Greg Edwards night who lead all the way until lap 47 when the 83 of Jeremy Grogg engine would expire bringing out the second caution of the night just as Greg Edwards had got tied up in heavy traffic.

Heading back to green following the second caution of the night saw Edwards, CE Falk, and Nick Smith pull away from the field, but just a handful of laps in JT Jackson spins down into turn 3 with just 39 laps to go. The action was on with the green flag coming out seeing CE Falk all over the back bumper of Edwards and taking the lead just 4 laps later. Edwards pulled right to the rear bumper of CE Falk, following a back and forth battle Edwards regained the lead with 18 laps to go only to see a caution come out 6 laps later. Coming back to the restart Edwards getting the jump over CE Falk in the closing laps, yet Falk battles back to the bumper and with just 11 laps to go Edwards and Falk get together on the front stretch bringing out the caution seeing Edwards headed to the pits and CE Falk sent to the back of the field by the officials.

This brought up a brother on brother battle seeing Wesley Falk leading over Danny Edwards. Coming to the restart Greg Edwards motions to CE Falk letting him know he’s not happy with the on track incident, but the race was back on seeing Wyatt, Wertz, and Gdovic three wide in the closing laps of the race, Wertz would end up on the losing end of the deal seeing his engine expire just a matter of laps later and Nick Smith spinning down in turn one to bring out the final caution of the night.

With just 8 laps to go Wes Falk leads over Danny Edwards and takes the jump with Gdovic all over the rear bumper of Edwards and taking the second spot away with just 4 laps to go. In the end Wes Falk would take the final checkered flag of the night over Brandon Gdovic second and Danny Edwards third.
