The haulers and tow vehicles have barely made it home from this year’s Runoffs at Sonoma Raceway, but it’s already time to look ahead to the 2019 Summit Racing Equipment SCCA® Road Racing season and the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour. Next year, the Hoosier Super Tour features 11 events beginning in January and closing out in July. The lineup of tracks includes old favorites along with a couple venues new to the series.
Once again in 2019, the Hoosier Super Tour will open at Sebring International Raceway in Florida before a February visit to Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. In March, the Hoosier Super Tour makes its first visit to Georgia’s recently-renamed Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta since the series re-launched in 2017, then it’s off to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Oklahoma.
April will see the Hoosier Super Tour make its annual stop at VIRginia International Raceway. Participation is expected to be very high that weekend as VIR is home to the 2019 SCCA® Runoffs® taking place in October, so plenty of competitors will use that three-day event as a warmup for the National Championship. After VIR, Hoosier Super Tour action heads west with stops at California’s Buttonwillow Raceway Park and Portland International Raceway in Oregon.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is again on the Hoosier Super Tour this year, as well as the WeatherTech Chicago Region June Sprints at Road America in Wisconsin. The month of June closes out with racing at Watkins Glen International in New York. The final race weekend on the schedule then takes place in July on the West Coast at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, also a first-time location for the Hoosier Super Tour.

Hoosier Super Tour venues are selected based on various attributes. Some have decades of history with a record book featuring the biggest names in all of motorsport. Other sites are top “pro” tracks offering the best quality racing surface and amenities. And certain tracks were selected because they are the best “club” courses in the country, where challenging layouts are matched with warm hospitality and a “family feel” to the paddock area.
According to Deanna Flanagan, SCCA’s Director of Road Racing, “We have done some fine-tuning on this year’s schedule based on participant feedback, including adding a week between the Hallett and VIR races. Additionally, we’ve added to the schedule two world-class facilities in Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca—each of which has a rich history with SCCA in Regional activities and as past Runoffs hosts. We anticipate another exciting Hoosier Super Tour season and, as always, thank our host SCCA Regions for putting on such great events.”
Beyond the venues, the Hoosier Super Tour offers a heightened experience for both competitors and race fans. Weekends include segmented timing and scoring, a service simply unavailable at most amateur motorsports events. The series also boasts a dedicated “Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire” team of announcers capable of providing consistent insight and entertainment heard at tracks or online at SCCA.com.
Dedicated staffing with a series race director, administrator and technical inspector working in conjunction with local event personnel is an additional feature of the Hoosier Super Tour. Up to two static cameras broadcast races live online at SCCA.com, and onsite SCCA public relations staff provide weekend media coverage. Hoosier Super Tour dates also have enhanced weekend social activities.
The Hoosier Super Tour serves as the Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing’s nationwide point championship. The point structure remains the same as previous years with the best six Hoosier Super Tour races, plus a Runoffs finish, going toward identifying class champions. Point totals for the Hoosier Super Tour are managed by SCCA national office staff and can be viewed at SCCA.com.
Only SCCA Full Competition and SCCA Pro Racing License holders may register to compete at Hoosier Super Tour events. The Hoosier Super Tour also serves as a path to the 2019 SCCA National Championship Runoffs® being held Oct. 8-13 at VIRginia International Raceway.
