There are a few select races throughout the country that both fans and competitors alike circle on their calendars every year once schedules are announced that they mark as a must attend. Most of those events have twenty, thirty, or even forty years of history that has built them to what they are today. However, the PASS South Easter Bunny 150 at the Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway has developed into one of the most attended races by competitors in the country in just six years of existence.
An average of fifty cars have attended each of the last two Easter Bunny 150 events making it the most attended single day super late model event in the country during that time. Just making the event is an accomplishment for some drivers such as Landon Cling, driving under the Brad Kesolowski Racing banner, who made his first career Easter Bunny 150 start a season ago.
“I don’t think I realized at the time but now looking back making the field in such a big race like the Easter Bunny 150 my first year of super late model racing was a pretty big accomplishment. We didn’t have the finish we wanted, but overall I think that race really showed a lot of people the promise of my BKR race team,” said 2012 PASS South Series championship contender Landon Cling.
Other drivers that have won a Bunny trophy knows what it feels like to be on top of the super late model world. An Easter Bunny win comes with plenty of recognition both near and far as it did for Ryan Lawler when he won the event in 2007 on his way to the PASS South Series championship that year. Lawler, who now just competes randomly behind the wheel, will be back at this year’s Easter Bunny 150 piloting Robert Hamke’s #74 machine. In addition to Lawler, plenty of PASS veterans have already filled entries such Jay Fogleman, Brandon Ward, Preston Peltier, Ben Rowe, and Cassius Clark, driving the #8 machine owned by Dick Woodman.
The talent behind the wheel from all corners of the country converging on one track has lead to fans flocking from as far as Canada to schedule personal vacation time around the event just to see the action packed, bumping and banging racing the abrasive 3/8th mile oval produces.
“My buddies and I have made the trip from Ontario, Canada the last three years to catch the Easter Bunny 150 and the caliber of competition that shows up is unreal. Without a doubt it is one of the best super late model races in North America and continues to get better every year,” noted fan Spencer Lewis via the Pro All Stars Series Facebook page.
This year, fans abroad that haven’t had a chance to see what the Easter Bunny 150 is all about in person will be able to watch the event live via online pay per view courtesy of 3 Wide Networks. For $19.99 fans will be able to view 3 Wide Networks multiple camera live feed with their personal computers, laptops, cell phones, or IPADs with play-by-play action from series announcer Alan Dietz through the public address system.
The 2012 Easter Bunny 150 at the Hickory Motor Speedway kicks off Saturday April 7th at 12 noon with practice followed by time trials at 4:30pm. PASS South super late model last chance races, Bandolero, Legend, and Allison Legacy Series features start at 6pm with the Easter Bunny 150 to follow at approximately 8pm.
