Codie Rohrbaugh; Grant County Mulch Racing hoping for some luck in Charlotte debut

To say Grant County Mulch Racing’s first two races of their 2018 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season have been disappointing is an understatement.

After being an innocent victim in incidents at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, seasoned veteran Codie Rohrbaugh heads to Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway looking for a reset in Thursday night’s General Tire 150.

“We’ve had absolutely some fast race cars,” said Rohrbaugh ahead of his third ARCA start of the season. “We’ve been up there – running near the front but haven’t been able to close the deal and get a finish that has been equal to our performance.

“Maybe that will change on Thursday night.”

The ARCA Racing Series returns to Charlotte after a 14-year sabbatical and with the opportunity to race in their own backyard, Rohrbaugh says his team is ready to perform in front of the best of the best.

“Charlotte is a huge opportunity for not only ARCA but our team,” he said. “With the NASCAR Xfinity and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series being on the grounds at Charlotte, everyone’s going to have their eyes on us.

“For me and our Grant County Mulch team, Charlotte is a chance for me to showcase my ability and our team’s strength. I think we’re close to showing everyone that we’re a winning race team. We have the cars, the equipment, the people. Just need a little luck.
“Maybe that could come at Charlotte. We’ll see. We certainly hope so.”

In a six-hour test at the 1.5-mile speedway in early May, the team produced the 14th quickest lap in testing but the Petersburg, West Virginia native says his team has studied their data and believes the changes they’ve made to the Mark Huff-led team will be a benefit in the one-day show on Thurs., May 24.

“The test was a success,” added Rohrbaugh. “We made a lot of changes throughout the day and the car responded pretty well. We have a pretty good notebook and Mark is optimistic about taking what we learned from the test and applying it to this week.”

Charlotte starts a stretch of three consecutive races for Rohrbaugh and Co.

In addition to Charlotte, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team is set to participate in the
upcoming test and race at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway followed by a quick turnaround to the Great Lakes State of Michigan – for a Friday afternoon showdown at Michigan International Speedway, the site of currently his career-best ARCA finish.

“Everyone’s been working hard to get us ready for this three-week stretch,” Rohrbaugh added. “I’ve never been to Charlotte – but I enjoyed the layout and the speed. Then, it’s back to Pocono one of my favorite places on the schedule then that ultra-fast Michigan.

“We can’t predict what’s going to happen over this next 25 days or so, but I do know we’re going to have some fun and try to get some strong finishes for Grant County Mulch and all of our supporters.

“From there, we’ll regroup and focus on the next race – likely Chicagoland at the end of June.”

In 12 career ARCA starts, Rohrbaugh has a best finish of eighth at Michigan International Speedway (June 2017) after starting a career-best eighth at the same 2.0-mile speedway.
