Thad Moffitt Begins a Busy Fall Race Schedule This Weekend

Thad Moffitt and the Empire Racing Group (ERG) will kick off a busy fall race campaign beginning this weekend at the Carteret County (N.C.) Speedway in late model competition.  The track is home of Transportation Impact, a longtime sponsor of the Petty family and Moffitt.  Moffitt, the grandson of “The King” Richard Petty, has already had a successful season.

The 17-year-old high school student made his first three ARCA Racing Series starts with ERG and Performance Plus Motor Oil, highlighted by an 11th-place finish at the short track in Indianapolis.  In addition, Moffitt has had success at the Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway, running in the ultra-competitive late model division. Moffitt has earned multiple Top-10 finishes at the track.

The team will now travel to Carteret County Speedway to mark the first of six races in seven weeks for the team.  The track is located near the home of Transportation Impact.

“It’s going to be great to go race at Carteret County Speedway,” said Moffitt. “I want to race at many different tracks to gain as much experience as I can.  We had a pretty good summer, especially at Myrtle Beach, and that’s a tough track.  I think we can really have a good run at Carteret County.

“I’d love to do well for Transportation Impact.  They have supported me since I started racing and I can’t thank them enough for that.  I’d love to get a win for them.  This ERG team has a lot of momentum right now, so we’re ready to get to the track and race.”

Moffitt is a 17-year-old native from Trinity, N.C. and is the son of Brian and Rebecca Petty-Moffitt.  He started racing a go-kart and a quarter midget before moving up to a late model and the ARCA Racing Series.   A high school junior, Moffitt grew up going to the track with his grandfather and watching his uncle Kyle and cousin Adam race.  He is supported by Performance Plus, Transportation Impact, Hostetler Ranch and Alsco.
