Schönau grabs 1st Elite Club win

Robert Schönau (#70 Mishumotors Chevrolet SS) won the Elite Club Division race at the Autodromo di Franciacorta in Italy. The German race driver pulled constant lap times during the two race sessions in what was his first complete ELITE Club race.

After the celebrations on the podium the German said: “It’s very interesting to drive such a format. The organization was brilliant and the competitors were very good. The cars are awesome and my team is wonderful. They did everything for me. The whole event here in Italy is great.”

Schönau also assessed the Franciacorta track: “It’s very tight and technical especially with this very powerful cars. It really is a lot of fun and very demanding for the drivers.” In the end Schönauer only had a penalty time of 2.658 seconds compared to the ideal lap time.

Yann Schar (#28 RDV Competition Ford Mustang) took second place with a gap of only 0.242 seconds. Franco Ercoli (#9 Racers Motorsports Ford Mustang) completed the top-3 with a deficit of 0.248 seconds compared to the front-runner. Championship leader Alfredo Cardoso (#31 RDV Competition Ford Mustang) ended up ninth, while runner-up Andreas Kuchelbacher (#5 Renauer Motorsports Ford Mustang) gained some important points in the championship and has strong chances to win the title this year. He is now leading the Division by three points in front Cardoso.

The final race of the Elite Club Division will take place at the famous Circuit Zolder on the October 13. The first ever NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Elite Club champion will be crowned in Belgium that day.
