Zane Smith Ready to Breakout at Michigan

Coming off a season high fourth-place finish at Pocono, Zane Smith returns to the track looking to breakout when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards visits Michigan Int’l Speedway for Friday’s Corrigan Oil 200.

Smith, one of the latest drivers to named to the NASCAR Next program, will take his familiar No.55 Musselman’s – Icon Vehicle Dynamics Toyota Camry to Michigan’s ultra-fast 2-mile D-shaped oval for the first time in his career.

Quietly putting together a solid first half of the season, Smith is hoping to raise the volume this weekend in Michigan.

“Our time is coming. I feel this team is really starting to click,” says Smith. “We’ve been good but I know we have more to show.”

“Pocono was huge for a lot of reasons. Not only did we overcome a speeding penalty to finish near the front but also learned a lot about our Toyota. Found a lot of speed. I’m really confident we’ll be able to carry that momentum into Michigan.”

“Each week is definitely a learning experience for me – especially at these big tracks. I’m still learning a lot about myself and how to drive these cars on the speedways. I’ve only got a couple starts on tracks bigger than one mile. My crew chief Billy Venturini has helped me a ton.”

Despite being held out at Daytona and Talladega due to not meeting ARCA’s minimum Superspeedway age requirement, Smith sits seventh in the championship point standings.

Driving his No.55 Musselman’s – Icon Vehicle Dynamic Toyota Smith has earned five consecutive top-10 finishes to start the season. He’s also earned double career best fourth places finishes at Toledo and Pocono.

The Corrigan Oil 200 from Michigan International Speedway will air live on FOX SPORTS 1 starting Friday at 6:00 p.m. The on-track action begins Thursday, June 15 with practice from 1 – 3 p.m. and General Tire Pole Qualifying starts at 1:40 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
