MDM Motorsports ARCA Racing Series Review: Toledo Speedway

The Menards 200 provided a lot of excitement for a nearly sold out crowd at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway on Sunday afternoon. A bump-and-run from MDM Motorsports’ driver Harrison Burton to win the 200-lap event was the highlight of the afternoon. It was his first career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards victory in only two career starts. It was also the second straight victory for MDM Motorsports and the No. 28 team. They won the General Tire 200 at Talladega Superspeedway on May 6 with Justin Haley.

Qualifying was canceled due to rain on Saturday. Therefore, the starting lineup was set by practice speeds from earlier in the day; Burton started fifth and Vinnie Miller started eighth. After a short delay to the start of the Menards 200 on Sunday afternoon, the green flag dropped allowing Burton and Miller to go to work on the field.

On the first pit stop, Burton’s car stalled for an unknown reason. He lost valuable track position and restarted near the rear of the field. He worked his way back to the front and took the lead on lap 193 with a bump-and-run pass on fellow competitor Dalton Sargeant. Burton never looked back after taking the lead and scored his seventh stock car win of the season and first ARCA Racing Series victory of his young career.

Miller made contact with the wall early in the race but was able to continue. After making multiple pit stops in the middle of the 200-lap race, the Michigan native was able to rally to his first career top-10 finish, ninth place, in his second career ARCA Racing Series start.

Harrison Burton, driver of the DEX Imaging No. 28… Burton entered the ARCA Racing Series Menards 200 on Sunday as one of the hottest young drivers in the country after winning two straight NASCAR K&N Pro Series races at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on April 22 and South Boston (Va.) Speedway on May 6. He was fifth quick in practice and after rain washed out qualifying, the 16-year-old Huntersville, N.C., native started fifth. On the first pit stop, the car stalled for an unknown reason. The car re-fired but not before losing valuable track position. He slowly worked his way through the field, and with seven to go took the lead with a bump-and-run move. The victory is his first-career ARCA Racing Series win in only his second career start.

Burton on Toledo: “It was exciting! We had some bad luck on that first pit stop, but this No. 28 DEX Imaging Toyota was on point today. It might have been the best race car I’ve had this year, especially on the long run. It took 10 laps for us to get there all day, but when we did, we could roll the center better than anyone. I’m just so honored to drive this car for these guys. They are building some very fast Toyota Camry’s right now. We are having a blast!”

Vinnie Miller, driver of the Master Mfg. Inc. No. 41… Miller made the trip to Toledo Speedway this weekend for the first time despite growing up only a couple hours from the track in Metamora, Mich. With friends and family looking on, Miller scored his third straight top-10 this season, and first career ARCA Racing Series top-10 with a ninth-place finish. He finished 10th in race number one of the Who’sYourDriver.org Twin 100s and third in race number two of the Who’sYourDriver.org Twins 100s on May 6th. Miller had to make several pit stops during the race because of damage sustained throughout the day but never gave up and scored an impressive top-10 finish.

Miller on Toledo: “Overall it was another solid day for us. We had a very fast car. I made a few mistakes throughout the day but was able to keep the car in once piece. My MDM Motorsports crew worked hard today and it paid off in the end with a ninth-place finish. We are really starting to gel as a team. I’m so excited to head to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway and make my first start on a track over one-mile in size. I know my guys will bring another fast Master Mfg. Inc Toyota.”
