Lee, Sargeant Look to Take Young Talent to Old High-Banks of Salem Speedway

Over 100 races, Salem Speedway has etched its mark in the heart of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards…and now Cunningham Motorsports drivers Shane Lee and Dalton Sargeant hope to add to that history. The two Big Tine drivers head to one of the most storied tracks on the tour this Sunday for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.

For Sargeant, Salem Speedway was where he made his debut in the ARCA Racing Series last spring. He finished third in what would end up leading to a highly successful season for the 2016 ARCA SCOTT Rookie of the Year. Now, one year later, Sargeant looks ahead to this weekend, taking what he’s learned

“It’s hard to believe my first start in ARCA was one year ago at this track,” said Sargeant. “It’s fun to look back and see how far I’ve come and everything that I’ve accomplished over the past year. There’s so much rich tradition at Salem and to have this be the place where I made my debut in this series is really special. It would be really cool to be able to come back to the place where I started this part of my career and get a win one year later. I think we have a strong No. 77 Big Tine Ford Fusion and we’re set to be contenders for the checkered flag on Sunday.”

Driving alongside Sargeant is teammate Shane Lee, who made one start on the historic track last season. Lee continues to build experience on short tracks and will transfer what he learned last spring as well as what he picked up from the test over to the race.

“Salem is such a special track to be able to come and race at,” said Lee. “We were able to come and test here a few weeks ago in the No. 22 Big Tine Ford Fusion and it felt really good getting back out on the track and reacquainting myself with Salem. It’s such a unique track with the banking and different lines you take from turns one and two to turns three and four. There’s usually a good turnout for the Salem races and the fans here really love ARCA. We should be able to give them a good show with the car all the guys back at the shop have worked so hard on and hopefully we’ll make our way to victory lane and get Big Tine their first win of the 2017 season.”

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 kicks off with practice and General Tire Pole Qualifying on Saturday, April 29. Then the 101st ARCA race at Salem is slated to begin at 2:15 p.m. EDT.
