Month of May Filled with Major Events Benefitting SCC

Speedway Children’s Charities Texas has a busy month of May with three major fundraising opportunities, all in an effort to help kids in North Texas.

The calendar includes the return of Speedway Children’s Charities popular “Laps For Charity” event and its newest fundraising venture the “Roanoke Roundup,” both of which are set for Saturday, May 13. The month culminates with the country western gala “Silver Dollar at the Ranch” on Saturday, May 20.

Here is a complete list of details for all three events:
  • “Laps For Charity” – The general public gets their first chance to drive on Texas Motor Speedway’s newly reconfigured and repaved 1.5-mile speedway during “Laps for Charity.” The one-day event, set for Saturday, May 13, from 5-10 p.m., allows fans to take their personal car or motorcycle around the speedway for three laps and complete the experience with a visit to Sunoco Victory Lane for a commemorative individual photo. The three-lap experience and photo is $40 with an advance purchase or $50 the day of the event. “Laps for Charity” also will have live music and a car show, with admission at $10 per car for those not purchasing a lap package. To purchase your laps or for more event information, visit www.scctexas.org.
  • “Roanoke Roundup” – Speedway Children’s Charities will serve as one of the two beneficiaries for the “Roanoke Roundup” scheduled for Saturday, May 13, on Historic Oak Street in the city’s downtown restaurant area. The all-day steak cook-off, which runs from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., allows guests to enjoy a 10-ounce steak prepared by their favorite chef competing in the event. Guests also get a tour of “Restaurant Row” in the “Unique Dining Capital of Texas” where they can try an assortment of side dishes and desserts. Children’s activities, a classic car show and live musical entertainment also are part of the day. Individual tickets range from $10-$25 depending on side dishes, desserts and steak dinners. • “Silver Dollar At The Ranch”: The event, aimed at benefitting pediatric cancer research and initiatives, returns for its 10th year and will be held at the XO Ranch in Aubrey on Saturday, May 20. The country western event features a raucous and rowdy night of dancing, dinner, games and silent auction. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and concludes with a concert by country music star Neal McCoy. Since its inception in 2008, “Silver Dollar at The Ranch” has raised more than $2.25 million for cancer research and programs on both the local and national level. PrimeLending is serving as title sponsor for this year’s Silver Dollar at the Ranch. For tickets or more information, visit www.silverdollarattheranch.com
