Hunter Baize and the Martin-McClure Racing team competed in the Zombie Auto 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway this past weekend. The team was prepared and poised to defend last year’s win. However, Mother Nature would have other plans. Throughout the entire race weekend, NASCAR officials as well as each race team had to make special accommodations and preparations for the forecasted torrential rain.
Baize and the No. 13 Lightning Auto Sales / Morgan-McClure / Direct Paintless team, under the direction of crew chief Chirs Carrier, posted the 7th quickest time during the only scheduled practice session. Baize completed his fastest lap around the half-mile, high banked Bristol Motor Speedway in 16.025 seconds at a speed of 119.738 MPH.
Qualifying would later be canceled due to adverse weather conditions. As per the NASCAR rule book, teams were lined up according to last years point standings. Baize started the Zombie Auto 125 from the 5th position.
As the green flag flew signaling the start of the race, teams knew that there was only a small window of time in which to complete the Zombie Auto 125 as thunderstorms moved toward the Bristol, TN area. At the conclusion of the half-way break, as cars were preparing to start the second half of the event, the rain began to fall necessitating NASCAR to cancel the remainder of the event. Baize finished the Zombie Auto 125 in the 4th position.
Baize and the No. 13 team currently are second in driver points standings.

“Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway is always a special time for me and for MMR. This is our ‘home field advantage’ track and the track where we secured our first team victory. I think we were all hoping to stand in victory lane again not to recapture the magic of last season’s victory but to create new memories and continue this season’s championship run.
Hunter’s 4th place finish moved us into 2nd in the points race which is a great place to be moving into the double header at South Boston Speedway.

“We had high hopes about our return to Bristol Motor Speedway. We were confident that if we went the full distance that we would have both MMR cars up front competing for the win. However, Mother Nature had other plans. Although we didn’t win the race, we achieved other notable things in Bristol. Mainly, we secured our first top-5 finish of the season and are now sitting 2nd in driver point standings. Hunter ran a strong race and showed speed on the track and our guys at the shop prepared a fast racecar. At the end of the day, that’s all I, as an owner, can hope for. I look forward to South Boston and the WhosYourDriver.org Twin 100s since this will be an important points event and the first double event MMR will compete in as an organization.” |

“I don’t think the privilege of racing at Bristol Motor Speedway will ever truly sink in. With the weekend schedule basically thrown out the window due to rain, Chris, and my entire MMR crew worked so hard to get us a car that could compete within a hour practice. We had a stable racecar, and with the minor adjustment we made at the halfway point I think we could’ve potentially raced for the win in the second half. It’s so cool to score a top-5 at the track where I grew up a fan in the stands.
