Off Season Notes: ARCA Testing for ThorSport, Kimmel

The countdown to Daytona is in full stride at ThorSport Racing, and the newest team in the Ohio-based stable will make its first trip this weekend for some pre-season testing. Frank Kimmel and his No. 44 Ansell/Menards Toyota Camry will be participating in the open ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards test at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday and Sunday. Kimmel, who announced his move to ThorSport Racing last month, will be climbing into a Toyota Camry for the first time in his racing career and looks to spend valuable time getting a feel for the new car and working with the team.

“There are a few different things we’re trying to accomplish this weekend,” Kimmel explained. “Our main goal is to get acquainted with each other since this is a brand new team. We’ll be debuting a new car, it’s the first time I’ve been in a Toyota, and this is the first ARCA Racing Series experience for the majority of my team since most worked in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series prior to this. It’s going to be an exciting experience for all of us. We’ll be working hard to adjust to the car and motors, get some speed out of our Camry and come back to Daytona in February to be competitive.”

Testing is scheduled for 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm both days. Aside from Kimmel’s ThorSport Racing entry, over 50 drivers have placed their names on the entry list for the test to prepare for the ARCA season opener at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 will kick off ARCA’s 60th year of competition on February 18, 2012.
