Gus Dean and GREE, the world’s largest manufacturer of specialized Cooling & Heating Products officially announced today the Bluffton, South Carolina native has joined Win-Tron Racing for the ARCA Racing Series season finale next Friday night at Kansas Speedway.
Dean will drive the No. 33 GREE / Cab Installers Toyota Camry, the same marketing partnership he had for his Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway debut which resulted in his first career ARCA victory in just his second career start.
Dean’s Toyota will also be decked out in shades of pink to showcase their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“I’m excited to join Win-Tron Racing,” said Dean. “This is a great opportunity for myself, GREE and Cab Installers to cap off the season on a high note while also allowing me to get some more experience on a mile and a half track.
“I’m appreciative to Kevin (Cywinski) and the entire Win-Tron Racing team for welcoming us for the ARCA season finale and allowing us to help spread the word about Breast Cancer Awareness.”
The 22-year-old heads to Kansas Speedway after his inaugural intermediate track debut last month at Kentucky Speedway. While running solidly in the top-10, a large piece of debris went through the radiator sending the driver and his Mason Mitchell Motorsports team behind the wall for repairs. He later returned to the race and finished 21st.
“I learned a lot at Kentucky,” added Dean. “I know Kentucky and Kansas will be different when it comes to passing and racing groves, but the experience is priceless. We have the goal of going to Kansas and competing for a top-five finish and being a good teammate.”
Kansas’s race marks the second race this season where Win-Tron Racing has fielded two cars. The Mooresville, North Carolina-based team also ran two cars in the season-opener at Daytona with newcomer Shane Lee and former ARCA winner Austin Wayne Self. Next week, Dean hopes to strengthen his relationship with Lee both on and off the track.
“I have a lot of respect for Shane,” said Dean. “He’s done an amazing job with the team the last couple of months and I hope we both have a good race and my first year of ARCA competition ends positively.”
Cywinski, a former driver and winning ARCA car owner is ecstatic about having Dean under their racing umbrella for Kansas.
“I’ve been keeping my eye on Gus all year and he’s done a real good job,” he said. “He’s had some ups and some downs, but he has stood tall through it all and at Win-Tron Racing we feel that’s a key fundamental to further success. We think he’ll not only be fast at Kansas, but he’ll be an equally good teammate to Shane (Lee) and we can go there and close out the season with two top-five finishes.”
GREE will be joined by its master distributor for the US market, Tradewinds Climate Systems, as well as a number of their regional wholesalers, salespeople, and most importantly, fellow race fans. The company, which ranked 385th in Forbes’ Global 2000 possesses 18,000 active patents for products sold in 160 countries.
“GREE is excited to extend our ARCA partnership for Gus’s Kansas debut,” offered Tradewinds Climate Systems president Dave Pearson. “He’s been very fast the last couple of races, but has experienced some bad luck along the way. We’re confident that he’ll have a strong showing in his Win-Tron Racing.
“We all continue to be impressed with Gus’s driving capabilities as well his desire to stand up and fight through adversity. He has not only become a tremendous role model and spokesperson for GREE, but we know he’s a very talented driver too. We’re excited to get to Kansas and see the results first hand.”
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series spotter Tyler Green, who guided to Dean to his popular win at Talladega has also made the leap to Win-Tron Racing and will guide him in his Kansas Speedway debut.
Dean will carry the GREE on-board camera for the 100-lap event on Fri., Oct. 14. The Kansas ARCA 150 will be aired live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Central).
Before Dean shifts his concentration to Kansas, he’ll compete in Saturday’s INEX Legend Car Series Asphalt World Championship at Waterford Speedway in Connecticut competing in the semi-pro division driving for 860 Motorsports. This summer, Dean had an impressive showing in the Summer Shootout at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway where Dean finished a close third in the overall summer championship standings, which also included a win and numerous top-five runs.
“I’m eager for the race on Saturday at Waterford,” said Dean. “I can’t thank the 860 Motorsports guys enough for giving me a call and asking me to come and run. Hopefully, we can have some pretty good practices and go out there and give nothing less than 110 percent for the race.”
